British English vs American English

How are you spelling your keywords, tags, categories and pages? It occurred to me that I might be jeopardizing my ability to get found by a majority of users, because I use British English spelling! For example, my "Get Organised" page would get less hits than if it were "Get Organized". I recommend you check your spelling in JAAXY before naming your tags, posts, keywords, categories and pages, or put a smattering of both spellings into your site.

This is playing on mind a lot too. I've just written a post about potty training and went through and changed "nappy" to "diaper" in every circumstance, do you think this is the best approach?

Hi there Jen, Starrlett and Sandi. My gut feeling tells me that as far as Google is concerned it would be safer to adopt the policy of "When in Rome..." just to be on the safe side. As you know the internet is all about dotting every I and crossing every T. All Bests, Simon

i Sandi, I read you blog re Brits and American English. I understand you fully. I live in Australia, and we do have British spelling. Much as I've learned to get used to Aussie spelling (British), I tend to spell the American way, for the sake of my readers. More countries adopt the American spelling - so I use 'favorite' instead of 'favorite', or 'organize' instead of 'organise'. But really, I wouldn't be so worried, if you'd rather spell in British, as people nowadays realise this (see, I spelled 'realize' with an 's' and I'm being alerted by my computer with a 'red line', lol.

Being in the UK I actually thought about the prospect of hindering my flow of traffic because of geographical spelling. At the moment my keywords aren't conflicted in terms of how they are spelt. Although I do tend to adhere to the British way of spelling words throughout the body of my blog posts, wouldn't have thought that would be a problem in terms of accumulating traffic.
