I remember going to North Carolina southern state with my father years ago. Our first stop was in Winston Salem, North Carolina in a wooded area of the county. There was this large bird I saw flying high in a tree that was about 25 feet high. I asked my father what is the name of that bird with white feathers on top if it's head? He told me it was an Ameruican Bald Eagle and is protected by state and Federal Gov't.

Dad begin to teach me how important it's to protect and preserve the American eagle. Hunting was not allowed when it came to the eagle because it was a symbol of strength and also illegal and punishable by laws of the U.S. My father would show me and teach many subjects about the American eagles history. I wanted to learn more about the eagle and it's habitat, how it hunts for food and longevity. The bald eagle is found only in North America. For the most part, bald eagles live in forest that are near rivers, lakes, reservoirs, marshes and coasts.

Some eagles are found near large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply and old- growth trees for nesting. The bald eagle is an opportunistic feeder which subsist mainly on fish, which it swoops down and snatches from the water with it:s talons.

The bald eagle was adopted as the national bird symbol of the United States of America in.... 1782; a native bird chosen for it's majestic beauty and strength, long life. The bald eagle on the Great Seal of the United States is srrounded by other powerful symbols. In his talons, the eagle holds a quiver of arrows and an olive branch, representing... war and peace. The shield on the eagle is red, white, and blue, colors taked from the flag. The bald eagles' role as a national sybol is linked to it's 1782 landing on the Great Seal of the United States on July 4, 1776, the continental Congress gave Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams the job of designing an official seal for the new nation.

One of the largest populations of American Eagles visit and nest at Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee about 1.5 hours from my house. They have tours that go around the lake viewing the eagles. If anyone would like to go, it is in Tiptonville, Tennessee in the Northwest corner of the state on the border with Kentucky.
There is also world class duck hunting and fishing there. Biggest bream I have ever seen. You can filet them they are so thick.
