Day 1: A Roadmap To Niche

Last Update: December 15, 2014

First of all, if you happen to be one of the people following me, thank you very much. You’re in for a real treat!

If you read my previous post, you’d know that as of 2 days ago, I have returned to the WA community. Briefly, I joined WA 6 months ago only to take a 4 month hiatus after about a month and a half to go out and better understand this thing called ‘Affiliate Marketing’ also known as ‘Internet Marketing’, and to get a feel for the current landscape.

It’s an interesting world out there. Mostly crap advice, but I did manage to find some excellent information. In the end, I’m better for it now because I’m back with a vengeance and a plan.

For the most part, here are the 3 biggest things I learned during my hiatus. First, everyone, and I mean everyone is pretty much now promoting the ‘Authority’ website avenue. Meaning, create your blog, throw on 10 – 20 initial posts (quality posts that is) to start the blog running, and then to continue to post on a regular basis. Whether it be 3 times a day, 3 time a week or simply just once a week. The key is to be consistent with your blog posts.

As mentioned in one of WA earlier video trainings, this tactic worked 5 years ago, is still working today, and will most definitely work in the future. The only drawback to this is that it could be 8 months to a year before you actually see any affiliate income being generated while you wait for your blog to receive some decent page rank and is found in the SERPs naturally. And I’m not interested in waiting 8 months for that to happen.

The second big thing I learned is that Google is changing the landscape of affiliate/internet marking constantly. So if you’re wanting to make affiliate income sooner than 8 months, you’ll have to keep up with the changing landscape and think outside the box.

And that is exactly what I am doing here on WA. “Thinking Outside The Box”.

I’ve decided to start this ‘Blog Journal’ as a way to keep me honest with my goals. As well as for you to be able to follow my journey as I reach my financial goals. As a bonus, I will be creating a roadmap detailing my journey to my first goal of $1000/mo. which I will be sharing here most likely in my Day 2 update tomorrow.

In the meantime, here is a recap of my goals I am shooting for:

  1. I would be happy earning an additional $1000/month.
  2. I would be ecstatic to reach my goal of $80K/month.
  3. I am going to spend whatever time is needed to achieve these goals.

And the timeline I’m expected to reach those goals:

  • ~10 days: Have my affiliate site fully functional
  • ~30 days: Start my 2nd affiliate site
  • ~6 months: Have a total of 6 affiliate sites
  • ~1 year: Go on an extended vacation somewhere hot!

One last thing before I begin my first journal entry, you can expect to see me deviate slightly from the teachings here at WA. This is part of the ‘Thinking Outside The Box’ process I’ll be covering over the next 30 days. Part of which I learned while I was away.

So let’s begin my first journal entry, now that the background is out of the way.

Yesterday, I spend most of the day re-acquainting myself with the WA website. Worked my way through to lesson 3 of course one and have now selected an affiliate product that I will be promoting. Yes, here is the first deviation. I select the affiliate product first as the whole website will now be based on that affiliate product!!

I also posted a few comments and met some real nice people. Looking forward to keeping in touch with you fine folks.

Lastly, I have started the outline of the roadmap and begun populating it with the steps I have done to date. I should have a link for you in tomorrow’s update.

Now onto the days work.

Cheers,
Rudy

P.S. – Oh, you’re probably wondering what was the third big thing I learned while I was away? That is the secret ingredient to hitting my first financial goal which I will reveal in a later update….

I share your quest for a similar goal. I came to WA with 2 websites already.

1 is a product I produced and generated a bit of income through it's seasonal sales.

The other is owned by me, but I don't have total control due to the branding. I have some affiliate ads on it but have not made any money yet. It's value is in the list, which I am working on capturing for myself.

I am just starting my first WA site now so we are about at the same place.

I look forward to following your progress and sharing ideas. Thanks for the invite to the road map!
