Requesting SiteComments is becoming like Russian Roulette

I've read and left comments on a good few posts today and now I've asked again for comments on my latest post.

I'm hoping that I'm luckier than I was with the last comment which wasn't at all relevant to the post and was, at best, general rambling. I'm pretty sure that if we disapprove a comment we have forfeited that request, so I really don't want to have to disapprove any more. If people feel that they can't leave a genuine comment, why don't they refresh and move onto another post so someone CAN leave a quality comment...?

All I'm asking for are comments that actually pertain to the post.

Will I get one.......? Won't I..........? It's a gamble isn't it....?

Hi Jyl,

If you get comments on your site that you do not feel are valuable, then you should definitely disapprove them. If there are folks who are offering very "general" comments, then disapproving them will help the system improve, and it will keep a comment that is not all that relevant away from your site. It will also help those who left you the comment with some feedback about WHY it was disapproved so they can work on improving their comments when they leave them in the future.

When you disapprove a comment, you get your credit back, so you're going to be able to request more comments. Go ahead and "Request More", you'll get some amazing and very relevant comments.

Comments through SiteComments here at WA are really incredible for the most part, sorry that you had one that was not as relevant as you would have hoped.

Carson

Thanks for the reply Carson, I do appreciate it. I'm 90% happy with the new SiteComments system, I've had a lot of really great comments - and always very soon after I put in my request. Which is probably why it is so frustrating when some people just don't seem to 'get' it. It'll take time I guess.
I'm glad that you've cleared it up about the credits, that's good to know.

Onward and upward :)

So we get the credit back, I did not know this. I had to disapprove one and I was thinking how I wasted my credits and the other person wasted his time. Thank you Carson.

So glad you replied back to RudViolet, I too have same problem and never disaproved one. I even had a comment clearly writing to reach the word count taltking about site menu and sidebar all mixed with a few words about the post. My niche is hair, and not many men care for it. So why not refresh and move on.... Let someone else leave a relevant comment! I've done this. Well at least now i won't feel bad if I have to disaprove... Thanks Carson!

I see Carson has given you great advice I have started to edit some of mine

I've been finding that I'm editing a lot of comments too.... people not actually even reading the post title and asking a question that was answered in the opening line. The worst though was when someone asked me if I would ever consider collecting playing cards....... My website is called icollectplayingcards.com
I say edit, edit, edit. If we're 'able' to do it then we must be 'allowed' to do it. 'Having' to do it, though, is just plain annoying..... :/

lol you have got to chuckle about that even though it is frustrating hopefully they are few and far between, have a good weekend

have to agree...the comments are almost useless.I don't mind critical, I do mind lame.

Yes, this can be quite annoying. One thing that has not yet been in this discussion. Once you have a comment, you will be able to edit it yourself. I do this when I do not have to re-write the whole piece, but just a little part of it.

It can be disheartening at times, I just delete comments that add no value to my site, see Carson has some good advice for you hope it improves

I think it's a learning curve for many people. Great thing is if you do disapprove, you do get your credit back.

You can always let the person know why you disapproved the comment, they many not be aware or know how to leave a great comment.

And your constructive feedback, can be the turning point for them to leave better comments in the future.

Reject. The person may learn from leaving you c**p. I've had a few but not to the point of rejecting luckily.
