Post comments or shares?

I've been noticing a lot that most websites that I follow have a section at the bottom for comments. And, almost always, there are never any comments. Yet there are always social media shares as shown on their social media buttons.

Here at WA we're all encouraged to follow each other on Facebook, Google+, Pinterest etc but are the 'comments' we exchange with fellow WA members really what we want?

I'm kinda craving some social media shares.... anyone else feeling the same? And how do we tell our fellow WA members that this is what we'd like from them, instead of 'just' comments...??

Hi, just visit your site, quite interesting site, left you a comment and did a couple of shares.

Hi Vi,
The problem with that, is that we aren't really each other's target audience, so it might work and it might not. I'd be happy to share, your stuff, but it all depends on what niche you're in. You can pm me if you like.

Great question! I have been wondering the same thing. The best way I have found so far is to reach out to members individually and ask them.

There is no thread set up specifically for this. I have asked Kyle in the past if we could have a thread where people leave their social media links for other people to follow. Currently, there is only a thread for sharing Google+ pages.

His response was:

We are considering others, we have found that things get far too "spammy" with Facebook though and leads to people getting promoted to an ultimately scammed.

Because of this we are reluctant to add this without an entire system around it.

So for now I guess we're on our own when it comes to this.

Any ideas?
