Public Service Announcement

Please be hitherto warned that I will, and I mean I WILL, edit any and all SiteComments that I feel simply don't cut the mustard.

I will not, as someone else once accused me of, simply 'make up' my own comments. Your comment will fundamentally remain. But I will cut out anything irrelevant ("I hate playing cards") and I will change the odd word or sentence here and there that in no way shows that you have actually read my post, let alone understood what it was even about. ("wow, so you actually print your own playing cards...?" or "I had no idea that you were a playing card designer" - No. I'm not. AND NO, I DON'T!!!!!!!) I recently wrote a review on a deck of cards where the designer had actually died last year (and the WHOLE review reflected this) so I spoke of the deck to her mother. And someone said "It's cool that you got speaking to her mother, was she not available to talk to you herself....?" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh... and here's a clue to what my posts are about - the subject matter generally tends to be in the title......... hello....???

And by the way..... if my website name is www.icollectplayingcards.com then please don't ask me if I've ever considered collecting playing cards. Because if you do.... well then... I'll make a complete eejit out of you on the World Wide Web.

This blog post has taken me weeks to write because I didn't want to HAVE to do it, but bloody hell folks, if you can't leave quality comments then.... well..... DON'T!!!! Refresh onto the next sucker!

Kinda wants to make me go back to the 'Need Site Comments' thread. And that ain't good.

Rant over. Peace out.

There has been much talk so to speak regarding comments, and I can understand why you would edit or cut out comments if they are not helpful to your site or worse still totally irrelevant,

Hey Jyl
Great to get it off your chest ain't it?
Mark

Hello RudViolet, i did read your page when you place it out there and i thought it was great but i was at work when i read it so i never left you a comment on this page as i was on my phone and very had to type on this i do prefer my computer. But i did read between the lines of this page and the comments you did receive (i hate play cards etc, etc) I say ( If you hate play cards don't leave a comment or just comment on the setup of the page or don't comment at all. stupid comments are not on, glad you said your peace well done

Thank you :) The thing is that when I'm asked to leave a comment on a page that I literally know nothing about, I refresh and go to another page. Why can't others do the same? We at WA are a great community for helping each other out. But if someone leaves a comment like "I don't like this nor do I know anything about it but your grammar is good" (for example) then other visitors to the site from outside WA are going to wonder how they ended up in your site in the first place and will get suspicious....

This is one of those things that can't be put down to teething problems though. These are people out on a mission just so they can request comments of their own. I reckon that we shouldn't earn our credits until our comments have been approved. It makes sense, doesn't it....?

I do the same thing and if i am unable to comment i will let them know that i will not leave a comment on something i don't know about there chosen site.
And it does make sense to you and me but not everyone

Always, always....leave people feedback if you don't like their comment and disapprove it. That is how people learn and get better. It is good to rant sometimes and just get it out there, but by all means if someone leaves a comment that is not relevant or doesn't have any value, then you can disapprove it.

Just do remember that people are coming rom many different "head spaces" when they come to your site, so although you might not leave a comment like that, others may and that is the beauty of website dialogue sometimes. Of course, there will sometimes be a low quality comment and in this case you just need to let the person know why you disapproved it.

Thanks for joining in this discussion Kyle.

If I may offer a suggestion to maybe help jolt people into making relevant comments....? What if we don't earn our credits until our comments are approved? That way the people who make random comments literally gain nothing from it.

Incidentally, I've just disapproved another comment where the person actually seemed quite agitated that they were asked to leave a comment on a playing card website..... sheesh......!!

I feel your frustration, but I am not sure it might get better. There might always be that comment that just isn't appropriate to the post, for one reason or another.

Vanessa..... it's not one... or two.... it's happening time and time again. Ok my niche may not be to everyone's tastes. To be really honest, the WA affiliate sites on here aren't to mine - I haven't done the bootcamp and it's not something I know anything about - yet no matter what I set my 'interests' to (ie: NOTHING to do with finance or making money from home) I always seem to get thrown these sites to comment on. And....? I ALWAYS make a relevant comment. I have 100% approval of my comments so I must be able to something right. What do I do right? I read the article. It's kinda simple. But it just seems that there are too many who think that they can leave whatever crap comments they want and that they'll be approved. Nope. If I can alter a comment I will. If I can't then it will be disapproved.
I didn't start out this way Vanessa..... they've turned me into this..... I may be a monster..... but it's of their own making....... bwahahahahahaaaaa!!!!!

(Didn't want to do the whole horror movie laugh thingy but it just came out of me.... sorry....)

I am so sorry, but this just had me laughing!

Maybe their should be a seperate training module for site commenting, since it seems we can't take it for granted that everyone knows what a "proper" comment should be like in this particular forum.

Yup yup Yup...!!!! Amen sister!! It does need to be a training module. You're right. And it also needs to be moderated more closely. Someone recently suggested that we don't get credits until our comments are actually accepted. And although that could potentially take hours (US/UK time differences for example) I reckon that's a fantastic idea. So then there's no (as we say) shite comments :):):)

Yes often don't think before they comment. That is one of the drawbacks of the way the system is set up.

Exactly. That's why I've called this blog post 'Public Service Announcement' because I'll leave the comment for them. I have requested comments on my most recent post tonight, and 2 of them I've had to disapprove. We're told that we get the credits back but they're still showing up as comments even though they're actually nonsensical whimsical thoughts. No credits showing. So if we don't get credited, then we must do some creative accounting. Seriously, I'm fed up with it and it's only a couple of months in....!!!
