MORE SiteComments Hiccups. Not good folks. Not good.

I'm not kidding folks......

If I keep getting the ridiculous comments that I've been getting in "SiteComments" then I'm going to start naming and shaming.

Tell me, is there any WA rule against it? Honestly, I need to know because I don't have the time to waste on this crap. Do something about it WA! Don't give people credits for their comments until their comments have been approved. It's simple.

Here's 2 comments that I've got on 2 different posts by the same person recently. Never mind the fact that they're just a mish-mash of each other, tell me..... what are my posts about....? Anyone.....?

Comment #1 (copied and pasted, so please excuse typos) "Looking good! you really know your stuff, I found your and its looking good, I willl be coming back, to check out your latest articles, keep writiting as good as you do and remember that the better content the better you can make people com visit your site, keep it up!"

Comment #2 (as above) "Really nice, you really know your stuff, I checked your page and its looking good, also your site and I willl be coming back, to see your latest posts, keep up the good work and remember that the content is the best you can make for people to find your website just like I did."

Some of you may already know what my niche is, but I ask the rest of you.... guess what my niche is from these comments.... guess what my posts were about.... you can't. I'm fed up, WA. Do something.

Ok, so I've also been on this guy's site (because I know who he is) and any comments that he gets are RELEVANT to each post. Is he really that ungrateful that he'll leave this crap on other people's posts??

His first comment received a full and frank reason for my disapproval. I have to ask myself... did he get my response...? Do WA dilute down the reasons to send through? See.... I wouldn't know.... because I have NEVER had a comment of mine disapproved. I WORK ON MY COMMENTS. So, is it WA who tell people off or the person who has disapproved me?

Any 'teething problems' should have been ironed out by now. This is unacceptable. Can we report people for crap comments? If not, why not?

Before any of you come on saying how SiteComments are the best thing since oxygen - for the MOST part I agree. I have found that I've left BETTER comments than I ever did because of it. And I have received some (the majority, I have to say) absolutely amazing comments from people who have not only read my articles word for word but have also followed any links, and that's fantastic - thank you.

But here I have had to disapprove 2 comments from the same person, when I've had to leave 4 comments just to get those. And I'm not entirely convinced (in other words, I don't believe at all) that we get our credits back for this kind of crap.

My upshot is.... personally, I don't mind "the wait" so I'm willing to not get any credits until my own comments have actually been read and approved. I'm sure this is something that can be worked into SiteComments. And I hope that it is. Because the next crap comment that I get from D****B** won't just get a rant - he will be fully named.

To those of you who actually read my posts before commenting, I thank you and I appreciate you. To those who don't.......... beware.

Hi Jyl,

We're definitely working on a solution here and we're moving quickly to make sure this kind of thing can't happen. People who are copy/pasting the same comment are going to lose their ability to be part of the WA SiteComments system very soon. Currently we check the entire Internet for duplicate content, but what we're missing is checking people's PAST comments that have been "disapproved". This his how this kind of comment is being allowed.

So...

1 - We're all over this and will have a solution to block this kind of comment very soon (Monday).

2 - When you "Disapprove" the comment, you get your credits back, so there's nothing to worry about there.

No need to name and shame, we know exactly who is doing this, who has done this in the past, and they will be dealt with in the coming days as we roll out some updates :)

Thanks for your patience, and to everyone's patience who has come across this before.

Carson

Carson.... you're a Champ!!!!! Thank you!!! :)

Well there ya go! Nothing unclear there. Very good news. -Alexx

I had the problem only twice or so. But it's a serious issue. Like with any new tool, there are some who don't get it and misuse it. I'm glad Carson is on the heels of these guys.

Hi Jyle
I have had one from him too - exactly the same! I am surprised that it actually got through the initial approval in the comment section. I It is frustrating when take spend the time to read people's articles and write relevant comments. am glad WA are doing something about this sort of thing.

Regards
Lucinda

Thanks for posting this. You are one of many.
It's great to hear from Carson!

I think it is time to bring such comments in public with names. This person has been using the same text at many sites. I received them too.

You are right, we do not get credits back. I have never seen any and I have rejected a number of comments of that kind.

Carson's comment (made after yours) indicates that you do get your credits back. If you're not getting yours back, I'd suspect that there's a glitch in the system.

"2 - When you "Disapprove" the comment, you get your credits back, so there's nothing to worry about there."

I have never seen credits coming back and did not hear anybody having them back.

I do get free comments from time to time but this is due to other reasons, I blogged about it earlier

To be honest: I don't have the problem with bad comments or feedbacks... It definitely depends on whose at the other site of the screen/keyboard...

I receive even very good feedbacks.... (I is what it is)

Grtz,
Bert

It looks like you are getting spammed on your site .... check if you have "Akismet" plugin it helps with spam ... here is the description of the plug in "Used by millions, Akismet is quite possibly the best way in the world to protect your blog from comment and trackback spam. It keeps your site protected from spam even while you sleep. To get started: 1) Click the "Activate" link to the left of this description, 2) Sign up for an Akismet API key, and 3) Go to your Akismet configuration page, and save your API key." ... best of luck ... cheers ... Michel

She is not spammed, this is from a WA member.

Yip, it's from a fellow member... someone who should know better. But Carson's reply has given me a LOT of hope here. Good times ahead peeps :)

Good (calm) rant. I haven't had such experience so far, but I do understand You totally. I always read before I comment on anything, I mean what's the point commenting without reading before? I don't get some people out there.

The other thing is, if You have a disapproval system or a "red flag system" like we have on Youtube for example, bad people are also using this feature to hurt some respectful and nice people. Some people are just not nice to each other, although I am a postive person and always try to see positive things first ;o)

All the best to You.
Kay

I get what you're saying Kay. And I think that this would be a great opportunity to be able to also report those who are constantly 'hurting' us for no valid reason by leaving nondescript, copied and pasted comments. Because if anyone was leaving crap comments for me as a way to 'get at' me then I'd like to be able to report that....
