Find a passionate groove and run with it
Here you are in the begging steps of the tutorial trainings and if you've clicked on this blog post, I'm hoping you've hit the part where it discusses picking a niche. If you're already ahead of the game, kudos to you for taking the time to figure it out. If, however, you are stuck at the picking a niche part or wondering how you'll ever find a successful one - I want to stop you for a minute and say first off - you're doing a great job! And you are also, right where you need to be!
One of the hardest parts for me was deciding which niche or categories I wanted to start out on and I had a notebook page full of ideas. I initially made the mistake of trying to see what would be profitable and sustainable for the online platform but what I realized through the trainings and the support within the WA community is WE are the profitable and sustainable component, not the niche itself. The niche or groove is simply our mode of transportation to get there. So even if you are on the fence about settling on an idea just know that it is going to be as successful, profitable, and sustainable as YOU are capable of being.
You want to find a problem or something to help solve for a community of people and then focus on ways to bring those solutions to them. Online browsing and searches are about making our lives easier and more convenient. With that in our focus window, we can make basically anything into a successful online business platform.
In order to do this it has to start with something you love, enjoy doing, and are passionate about. No one is going to want to check out a webpage, website, or online business if its boring and dry. People want to experience those solutions through a trusted lens, and that's YOU!
The first niche I settled on is about the sport of hockey. Growing up I use to hang around the rinks all the time between practices, games, tournaments, a place to hang out. I became what was known in the hockey world as a Rink Rat. If you can't tell by now I am very passionate about hockey and could talk hockey pretty much all day if I could get paid to. Hey! Wait a minute, I CAN! And that is my goal, to help educate people on equipment, products, appareal and any of their other needs around the hockey rink. I decided that there is enough interest of a community looking for solutions to finding the best protective hockey gear available online.
So that is what I did. I made my niche centered around a love passion of mine where I can discuss, educate, and provide links and other resources to stay up to date with the world of hockey both on and off the ice. I even coined the website 'The Rink Rat Destination'.
This website or experience as I like to call it, was something I would have loved to have when I was a kid, and/or even as a parent now while I watch my kids begin their hockey fun. Any way, the website is still in its infancy but I'm having so much fun creating content and playing around on the platforms.
