It’s Okay to Feel Blue

Hello WA fam,
Today’s blog is a little different. I want to talk about something we all go through but don’t always talk about.
Lately, I have been very emotional seeing my country is hurting. Just this month, we were hit by multiple earthquakes. A magnitude 7.4 quake struck Davao Oriental, followed by a 6.1 in Surigao del Norte. People are scared. Families are displaced. And the ground beneath us literally is shaking.
As mum, I try to stay strong but behind that strength is a storm of worry because I know I can’t control everything and that’s the hardest part.
I write this blog to express how vulnerable I am and also my way to connect with all of you guys and just little reminder that It is "OK not to be OK" Some days, you wake up and everything feels heavy. You’re not sure why. You’re not sad exactly, but you’re not okay either. That’s what feeling blue is and it’s totally normal.
Feeling blue doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means you’re human. Emotions are like weather they change. And just like the rain, this feeling will pass.
On days like this, be gentle with yourself. Listen to your favorite song. Write down your thoughts. Talk to someone who makes you feel safe. Or just sit in silence and let yourself be.

Hi Wen,
Thank you for writing this. I've been feeling the same way lately, and it's comforting to know I'm not alone. It's hard to stay strong when you feel so helpless. I really needed to hear that it's okay not to be okay. I'm going to try to be kinder to myself today, thanks to you.
I hope it brings some comfort and connection🙏
Karen
Hi Wen,
I’m really glad to hear that you, Mel, and Melissa Jean are safe.
I can relate to how you feel. We’ve experienced our own share of earthquakes here in the North. While I'm not scared for myself, I worry for my 2-year-old, Zander. It’s already heartbreaking to watch the news about corruption in our country, and the impact of super typhoons and earthquakes makes it even more disheartening.
In times like these, we can only rely on the Lord for His mercy, strength, and protection.
Please take care and stay safe. God bless!
Alice
Absolutely Alice, We can only hope and pray that we will survive this earthquake safely. Stay safe Alice and your family as well!
Wen
So sorry to hear this Wen, we are always living in a bit of fear of earthquakes here on Vancouver Island and the surrounding Vancouver area as we are sitting on one of the bigger plates that is apparently going to go one of these days leading to a significant earthquake. Scary stuff.
It's ok to feel blue, and process your thoughts. Wishing the best for you and all the people out of your way and I hope this is the last of the earthquakes for you.
Hello Kyle, Thank you so much for your kind words and empathy. It really means a lot, especially knowing others understand this fear too. Sending strength and safety to you and everyone on Vancouver as well may we all stay safe and find peace in these uncertain times.
Yes, Wen, I think we all know that feeling. It's quite difficult to describe, and it doesn't need anything as horrific as an earthquake to appear. Here in the UK we are just going into the dark/wintry season and even waking up to darkness, cold, and heavy clouds creates a completely different mood to waking up with the sun already streaming in.
As you say, it's best to 'go with the flow'. Do as much as you can when you can, and don't stress about doing less and taking it easy when you feel 'blue', as you say.
Lots of hugs and good wishes to you and your family,
Isabella
Hello Isabella, Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful message. It’s comforting to know that even across oceans, we share these quiet struggles whether it’s the weight of a season or the fear of something bigger. Your words truly mean a lot. I hope you and everyone there in the UK are safe. Stay safe Isabella!

This really touched me, Wen. It takes courage to write from a place of vulnerability, especially when your community is in pain. You’re right, it’s okay not to be okay. Sometimes strength is simply allowing ourselves to feel and still move forward. Stay safe and keep writing from the heart.
