How Do You Decide Which Blog Posts to Read?

For a long time, I kept the number of friends here down to a minimum, so I could keep up with them. But now I'm adding more. And I'm wondering how those of you who have gazillions or even many hundreds of friends decide how to choose which blog posts to read. I mean, we do all have other things to do, right?

Here in a nutshell is my method. How can I improve on it?

  • In gmail, I have a label !!WA which has those two exclamation marks since W is near the end of the alphabet. This marks every email I get from WA and makes it easy to see them.
  • The titles of some emails are just irresistible so I often click on those first.
  • Some people I always follow (Israel17, Twack, several others) and some I never open These never-opens are ones that write for beginners. Often they are very good posts but I don't feel the need.

That leaves most of the emails in my gmail. I don't know quite what to do with them all.

What do you do?

I know what you mean. Once your network grows, it can get out of hand.

First I go to the people that have replied to something I've written on their blog.

Second, I look for my "regulars" After some time, you'll find a core group who's blogs you always read and interact with.

Third, I scan the titles for something that catches my eye. I try to encourage some of the new people but also try to stay away from extremely long blogs.

You can also adjust your account settings to not see these and just look at what interests you from your dashboard.

Hello Rosanna, my email address is only for WA emails, I scan them for interesting subjects, such as yours is. I often seek out newbies, I feel they need our support the most, you can tell because they generally have just made badges or just completed certain lessons, and I make sure to give them a pat on the back. Otherwise I stick to very interesting subjects. I do have an inner core of people I try to respond to, that is reply to their posts, but in WA some members get awful wordy and bore me to death. So I tried to scan for the most interesting questions and posts.

I use the WA email system for my emails, and not my normal email box.

I then spend about 30 minutes each day deleting anything in that inbox that I don't believe is relevant to me.

All training and interesting questions are placed in folders for later use

I will then spend another thirty minutes commenting on any blogs I have selected not to delete.

After commenting I will place any blogs I deem educational into folders as well.

All if this is done in the early morning ( usually between 4 and 5 am), while I'm still in bed.

I will then return to the training etc on my lazy Sunday's and on any days I can find some spare time.

One thing I learned in my corporate days was to prioritise emails.

All the best. Jim

Great post. I do not know if I could physically read them all. I typically scan the titles and if they jump out at me then I read. I also tend to read the ones of people that have been known to read mine. I try to go back and read more on and off through the day.

When I joined WA and started getting the e-mail notifications, I changed the settings because that amount of e-mails would stuff my mail box that I use for business.
I usually read only a few posts a day, some that catch my attention and those from people I feel close to. Used to read all posts but can't keep up.
