Five listening mistakes
1. Make-believe listening. If listening is equated to caring, people will know that you care by the way you value their words.
2. One-up listening. Rather than listening and relating to another person's problem, you minimize it by saying you have greater problems.
3. Barney Fife listening. This tendency is to "Nip it in the bud!" Instead you should listen, not trying to solve or end what you are being told.
4. Dr. Phil listening. This is a disconnected string of trite suggestions, listening with your mind and not your heart.
5. iPod listening. This is listening with your "fingers in your ears", head down, and eyes closed to the problems you see and hear.

Good post Ronald because truly listening (not hearing) to someone is tougher than most people think.
All very valid points Ronald. Coincidentally, a couple of days ago I watched a 'TED' video and it was all about how to have a conversation. All your points had a place in the discussion. Nice one.
Thanks for sharing your 5 listening mistakes. I think being 'present' brings value to listening.
Cheers
Daisy

Most of us don’t listen well because, we’re thinking about what we’re going to say.
