I do not recall

Since the small beginnings of the internet I have owned a computer. For me the late 80's. I took a basic course in DOS, the then, most prevalent of operating systems. For me The computer was used mostly as an accounting and record keeping tool.

In the beginning I got myself an IP based email account, and ever since, my habit has been to get up and check my email. I honestly can not remember what my habits were prior to this phenomenon.

These days most of us carry a digital device which includes email, web browsing, and despite what I was told in school, a calculator that I can always have on hand.

I was just thinking back on my early days, and realized that I have evolved and learned so much since all of this started. Many others on WA will also remember the days of "pong" and the following onslaught of video games.

Almost everything is available online now, and many have opted to no longer have a landline phone, as you can be reached in your pocket 24/7.

I can remember showing my children how to set up and use email, now they show me things.

It seems that the fact that we are all making money online, or in the process of it and most of us are still using the computer as a mult purpose tool.

These days you can't really do without computers.

These are just some thoughts and ramblings of mine

This could be my story too. I took a computer course at a business college in 89, learning Dos and BASIC, for accounting. It never came to real use in the accounting profession but it gave me my start on computers. Floppy disks and 64K of memory! Them were the days!

That was in the early 80's, am I right? I started then with an Apple II, mainly for games and WP. I still remember the ctrl sequence. Time flies. Gone with the wind.

Agreed. I am very shocked when I hear of someone not having a computer at home. Then I think of the expense. There is the cost of technology itself, but then there is the monthly cost of internet. The costs of a computer at home can add up - although there are ways around it. Sometimes I wonder if the real difference between the haves and the have nots is the computer and the knowledge to use it as a tool. Susan
