SUCCESS - Focus and Determination
Do you want to win and succeed in business today? Of course, you do. Then you need focus and determination.
I went cabin camping this weekend with the boy scouts. As a volunteer adult leader for my son's troop, I decided to chaperon my son and three other scouts during an orienteering course in the wilderness.
The first thing we needed to do was understand the big picture, how to get from point A to point B.
We needed to figure out where the starting point was and navigate through a set course of checkpoints which would eventually lead us to the final destination.
We figured out our pace count, which is the number of paces it takes us to walk 100 meters.
Then we learned how to calculate distance (in paces) from checkpoint to checkpoint.
The last thing we learned was how to use a compass and set a course, using an azimuth, or a direction of travel.
Well to make a long story short, we were confident in our preparation and skill to meet our objective. We had predetermined an approximate finish time as well.
It didn't take long before we realized that there was something wrong with the course. The checkpoints were not clearly marked and the terrain of the wilderness began to instill fear, doubt and negative among everyone.
We realized that if we wanted to complete the course and get back safely then we needed to focus and work together as a team. We also knew that time wasn't on our side and we needed to move quickly before we lost sunlight.
Our group met up with two other groups that were in the same situation. We were all headed to the same objective. So we teamed up and traveled together. At first, we argued and challenged each other's direction but eventually decided on one course of action.
We were determined to reach the objective. However, the terrain was difficult for some scouts. A few scouts and adult leaders had to help the weaker boys adapt and overcome mental and physical challenges throughout the course.
These boys started to give up on the goal but we believed in them more than they believed in themselves. Never give up in life. Focus and determination will get you to your end goal.
We encouraged the boys to push through the fear, doubt and negative emotions; and to just keep moving forward. We reminded them why we started to begin with and why it was important for them to finish the course.
It took a lot of work. The leaders and older scouts helped the younger scouts. We completed the course and got everyone back safely as a team.
Success will elude you if you lose focus and give up. It's so important to stay focused, not only on the final objective but also on your next step. Stay determined and never ever give up.

Great analogy! Focus and determination are key and I have to work on that daily as I have undiagnosed ADD and tend to jump into several things too quickly. This year I took a new approach to help with this by making signs all over my house with positive affirmations + an excel sheet with daily tasks to follow, among other silly things that seem to work. However, focus and determination are necessary actions to achieving these goals.
