How to Direct Link to a Comment in WA (Boost Visibility for Kyle’s Challenge!)
In my last post, if you clicked the link, you may have noticed it didn’t go to Kyle’s competition post, instead, directly going to my comment for the entry.
I found it weird that there wasn’t an option to do that. If you want to though, here’s how to do it using the Inspector tool in Chrome…
Step 1: Highlight your comment
Step 2: Right-click then select "inspect".
This opens the Chrome inspector tool.
Step 3: Look for the comment ID.
Mine is "Id="comment_39693653" <-- note that underscore for the next step.
Double-click that and copy it. You don’t need the ID=” part. Just the comment and the number to identify it.
Step 4: Swap the underscore for a forward slash
Remember to ignore the ID=” part mentioned in the previous step. That needs changed to turn it into a working URL.
Go to the blog post your comment is on, add a forward slash to the end (if it’s not already there), and paste in your comment id with the forward slash, not the underscore.
This is mine:

Step 5: Share it
If, like me, you had done step 1 to announce how you decided to do the page you were doing, then shared the link without the backstory, you can link between them by editing your comments. That way, people can see the context.
Next Steps:
1. Click this link to see my entry
2. Click the link to see what I did this week
3. Like if you like, comment about what you like or dislike, and/or move through as many URL submissions as you like in the comments of Kyle's post.
You get 3 votes (likes)

We direct link people to their comments from emails as they get notifications, as all comments have ID's. Perhaps this is a feature we add in the feature, where anyone can share any comment as well as the blog posts and vlogs.
Thanks for sharing this Robert!
Cheers Kyle. It was the notification (bell) icon that got me thinking about it. I was like, how come that can take me directly to a comment but the dropdown just has an edit or delete option? I just want to grab the link lol.

oooooh!!! Love the detailed hints from a Web Dev. I'm saving this article! inter-comment linking? Exciting!
Am I an inventor now? lol. The guy who made inter-comment linking a thing haha.
It works on WordPress too. Just different formatting.

As [user name] mentioned in the [comments here], the "core principles remain the same". Handy for highlighting stellar User Generated Content, I think. Especially, since others can hit reply and chime in too.
Might be onto something ;)
