Dream Small, Work Steady: The First 6 Months of a Niche Site

I heard a familiar phrase this morning—the Serenity Prayer:

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.”

It’s been a while since I heard that, but it still resonates. There’s plenty I can’t change—but there’s also plenty I can. One of those things is building wealth.

Now, when I say “wealth,” I’m not talking about thousands in passive income. I get by through my services business, and I’m also building a niche site using the training here. My profile says the goal is four figures monthly—but truthfully? I’m starting with just £150 per month. (Anyone else do that? Drop a comment below if you’ve set a “humble” goal too.)

Why £150? Because that covers the costs of the tools I use, plus a small buffer—for things like extra AI credits or an emergency course when I need to upskill quickly. (It happens a lot when you’re contracting with businesses. One day it’s SEO for Shopify, the next it’s video scripts for Insta Reels.)

The Morning Ritual

When I’m not quite in the mood to write, I warm up with a journal entry. Today’s felt worth sharing—for anyone who’s been grinding but feeling like traction is slow.

This morning’s entry:

I can work on publishing. I know how to do that—and I know it directly influences income.

The [niche site] I’m building has a small goal: £150/month in 3 months. To get there, I want to publish 12 “buyer intent” posts.

So far, I’ve got a few:

  • Best [keyphrase]
  • Best [keyphrase]
  • Another [keyphrase] one with affiliate links (might not do much, but who knows)

Next up:

  • Best [keyphrase]
  • Best [keyphrase] or [keyphrase]
  • [Product]
  • [Product 2]

That’s 4 live and 4 planned. I should be able to finish 2 of those by the end of this month.Progress So Far:

  • March: 15 posts published
  • April (so far): 7 posts published (it’s April 11th)
  • Goal for April: Match March with another 8 posts: 2 buying guides + 6 informational

Currently:

  • Traffic: 52 clicks in the last 28 days (depressor)
  • Goal traffic: 3,000/month (100/day)
  • Timeline: Started consistent publishing in March 2025

Playing the Long Game

Let’s break that down:

  • Month 1: March
  • Month 2: April
  • Month 3: May
  • Month 4: June
  • Month 5: July
  • Month 6: August

By the end of August, at 15 posts/month minimum, I’ll have 90 posts. Spread across 6 categories, that’s 15 per category. Maybe more with one-offs like the [niche] finance post.

The Takeaway

I’m sharing this for anyone who sees 52 clicks after a month of effort and thinks, “Is this worth it?”
Yes, it is. Every site starts somewhere. Keep going.

Set a 6-month goal. Doesn’t have to be money.

  • A photographer, or even a framing business might aim to help five families digitize old VHS tapes.
  • A coach might aim to earn a video testimonial that proves they know their stuff.
  • A blogger could build a LinkedIn following to tap into when they publish new content and want faster traction.

Whatever your thing is—keep it small, keep it steady.

I love your 'Dream Small, Work Steady' post.

You seem to have a solid 6-month plan. At the moment, my goal is to publish a post a day. I have been inspired by Michael's (MToback's) regular publishing and increasing daily sales. He publishes two posts a day and does videos. I will take stock of how things are going at the end of the month and make a more detailed plan for the next 6 months and set a goal.

I also think I ought to write a monthly WA blog like Michael to keep myself accountable.

Wishing you lots of success and look forward to an update.

Thanks Isabella. I'm a little late in replying: I was off yesterday. Scottish Grand National. We won! Captain Cody (One of my dogs is called Codi lol).

I was thinking publishing once daily, but I’ve other work I can’t neglect, and I don’t want to risk losing quality by stretching myself thin. I feel the 15 monthly is doable, but challenging enough. Enough for like today, a Sunday, I’d tend to want to be off, but knowing the monthly goal, I’ll jump on and do a bit.

I’m going down the Michael rabbit-hole to catch up on the older posts I’ve missed.

Cheers. Keep us posted on how you get on!
