Disapproved Comments and how to react appropriately

So unfortunately my 100% comment approval has been reduced to 95%. I'm a perfectionist at heart so that was a real blow to my ego so to speak. I know it might not sound like a big deal but having too many disapproved comments might get you banned from making comments, which means you might lose the opportunity to ask for comments.

In this case, the disapproved comment was totally justified. I understand fully why my comment was disapproved because it really wasn't as great a comment as my previous ones had been. So I decided to make this post as a result of my own experience.

This post is more to do with how to react to negative approvals of your comments.

Instead of getting upset over it, make sure you read what the person said about your comment. You need to see why that person disapproved because often times they will literally answer your "Why did I get a disapproved comment????" question.

Sometimes their reasoning is sound, sometimes it isn't. In my case, my comment really wasn't too good and that was down to the fact that it was 2 am at the time I posted it and I was just too tired to give a quality comment. That's not an excuse though, it's a warning to others.

Just move on and make sure to give great comments. Comments aren't the same as feedback and you need to really work hard on helping the person out who's post you're commenting on.

Make sure you have the energy to provide good comments. READ through the posts and carefully structure a good comment that's engaging and relevant.

Also remember to READ the guidelines and go through them again after seeing the disapproval. You might be half the problem after all.

From my experience, you DEFINITELY don't want to make comments when tired. In my case, I really wanted to rack up some credit so I could ask for comments and feedback and I went a full 45 minutes doing just that. By the end of it I was absolutely exhausted and the comment that was disapproved was one of the last few I made before going to bed.

So make sure not to over-exert yourself. It actually takes quite a bit of energy to give quality comments.

More often than not, you need to understand that you can't please everyone and you certainly can't always blame the other person all the time. For me, I'm going to make sure from now on that I've got the energy to make a few comments and then stop when I'm getting tired. It wasn't helpful to the person who's website I commented on and it wasn't helpful to my rating. I deserve the disapproved comment.

Sometimes accepting the fact that your comment was no good is the only way to improve and move on. I made this blog after seeing a lot of other posts essentially venting frustration about disapproved comments. In some cases, you might get unlucky but in other cases, you need to accept responsibility.

Sorry if this is a somewhat disorganized post. Thanks for reading :)

Just found this because I disapproved a comment for the first time , than felt bad and started to wonder if it was going to have a negative effect . In my defense though it was site feedback instead of the comment I asked for and it was well awful even in that regard .... still I kind of feel bad but those credits represents either a good 30-40 minutes of my work time or a dollar I spent buying credits ..... all I ask is we stay on topic ... seriously, I’m super easy to please ..... just stay on topic , PLEASE

Hi there
Well said and I agree with you totally
I am at 95% like yourself and I am not unduly worried
The time and effort given in offering comment feedback is part of the learning cure, I guess
Cheers and thanks again

No worries Phil. Anytime :)

I was just wondering the other day if this ever happens, and now I know. I think this is great information for us and I am glad that you shared it. I know that I am guilty of just getting into the groove of commenting and forgetting that the most important part of these comments is to help others build and find confidence in what they have worked so hard on. It is easy to fall into the rut of being generic and this post explains exactly why that can harm you in the long run. Thank you for sharing and one quick question- How do you know if one of your comments has been disapproved?

Hey TKCeja

When you go to the "Site Comments" section of WA which you can find on the left hand side of your screen under "Site Rubix, Build Your Websites Here", you can go to your comment history.

Then you scroll down to see which of your comments has been approved and which ones haven't

Thank you! I didn't know this:)
