crafters online

I realized years ago that I'm a crafter, I love building things! That's the main reason I've stayed in manufacturing for my day job. I went to school to learn network administration but honestly couldn't see myself sitting in a cube, talking on the phone, and troubleshooting computers. All day, every day, for the rest of my career. So I went back to manufacturing, mostly electronic. The most fun assignment was molding and packaging fishing bait. Coming home from work covered head to toe in glitter some days, and smelling like a tackle box is tough to do with a straight face.

I've built medical cables, devices, now I build flame and gas detectors. How things are made is very interesting and exciting! I love seeing things go from raw materials and random pieces on a shelf to a finished product and being part of the process. Soldering, operating the machines, assembling and packing. It's neat with consumer products because after work, you go out shopping and see the product on the shelves in stores. Then see the customers happily purchase the products and bring them home.

The most touching moments were seeing how the medical equipment helps the medical teams save lives. All because my co workers and I do our jobs and do them well.

I also feel very bad sitting here typing this on my mac air knowing that it came from a place with gates and suicide nets to keep their employees in. :( But I am glad that came to light so Apple and Motorola are bringing some manufacturing back to the U.S.

So switching gears into marketing and affiliate programs, I feel like I'm stepping away from the part that I know and into the unknown. After the products leave the assembly line they have to be sold somehow. Here I'm learning how it's done online. It still feels like I'm learning a new language, it's out of my comfort zone! Somebody moved my cheese yet again!

Like you, I've always been interested in how things work and working with my hands. One of my most memorable classes was a workshop class. Woodworking (we HAD to take it) and I was silently excited when all my friends were boohooing and complaining.

I made a clock (we had to wire it too), jewelry box, and cutting board. I had so much fun and became a fan of crafting then. My mom still has and uses all of my projects to this day.

Thank you for being crafty and giving us all those things that make our lives, better and safer.

Good luck on your learning about "the other side" of the coin, the selling.

Patty :)

P.s. One of my favorite quotes: "I'm so crafty, I make people"... LOL :)

Hi Rixa, I am awestruck by people who are good at making and building things - wow, flame and gas detectors, and medical devices - that's awesome. And you will be able to do that in a different way with your website. Just imagine reaching hundreds, thousands, and millions of people and passing along to them your love of crafting and creating things and making a difference in their lives! All the best ~Jude
