A Change of Heart: Finding Purpose in Business and Life
Sometimes, life throws us into a cycle of routine, and we don’t even realize how disconnected we’ve become from our true selves. We move from one task to the next, feeling as if we’re progressing, but deep inside, there’s a quiet discomfort. It grows, festers even, until it becomes something we can no longer ignore. That was me, just a short while ago.
I’d been journaling regularly, focusing on personal growth and self-reflection. But one day, something different happened. Instead of the usual notes about business goals and progress, I found myself writing about resentment, frustration, and disconnection. I wasn’t happy with where I was in life, despite the work I’d been doing.
It wasn’t the business that was the issue. The issue was me.
Recognizing the Real Problem
In my journal entry, I shared how I’d been feeling stuck—like I was spinning my wheels but going nowhere. Sure, I was working on my business with Wealthy Affiliate, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was drifting off course. The frustration wasn’t just about the business, though; it seeped into my personal life, too. I found myself snapping at my wife, responding to her in ways that didn’t reflect the respect and love I have for her. In that moment, I realized something critical: I was becoming someone I didn’t want to be.
The words of Denzel Washington echoed in my mind: “Dreams without goals are just dreams.” I had dreams—big ones—but I wasn’t doing enough to back them up with clear, actionable goals. I was letting life pass by, thinking, “I’ll get it together eventually,” but I was tired of waiting for “eventually.” Life doesn’t wait for anyone. And it was time I faced that reality.
The Turning Point: Facing My Fears
It was in that moment of self-reflection, that moment of sheer frustration with myself, that I decided to take action. I shared my journal entry with ChatGPT, seeking some perspective. What I got back was a reminder that awareness is the first step toward change. Just acknowledging that I was dissatisfied and wanted something better was already progress. But I knew I needed more than just recognition—I needed a plan.
The advice was clear: small steps matter. Change doesn’t happen overnight, and it doesn’t come from grand gestures. It’s built through consistency, patience, and a willingness to grow. I’d been so focused on the what-ifs—what if I fail, what if I’m not good enough, what if this business doesn’t work—that I forgot the power of simple action.
Lessons for Business and Life
What I realized in this moment of self-doubt was that business and personal growth are deeply connected. You can’t separate one from the other. If you’re not growing as a person, your business will stagnate. If your relationships are suffering, it will impact your work.
Here are some lessons I took away from this experience, lessons I believe can help anyone striving for more in business and life:
- Own Your Flaws – It’s easy to blame external factors for why things aren’t going right. But real growth comes from owning your mistakes and recognizing when you’re not showing up as your best self. It’s not easy to admit when we’ve fallen short, but it’s necessary.
- Small Steps Lead to Big Change – Change doesn’t have to come in the form of some massive overhaul. In fact, it rarely does. Focus on small, daily actions. Each step forward adds up, and before you know it, you’ve built something substantial.
- Ask for Help – For a long time, I thought I had to figure everything out on my own. But there’s strength in seeking guidance. Whether it’s from a mentor, a community like Wealthy Affiliate, or even through tools like ChatGPT, support is out there. Don’t be afraid to ask for it.
- Set Clear Goals – Dreams are great, but they need to be backed by specific goals. What exactly are you working toward? What are the daily, weekly, and monthly actions that will get you there? Without these steps, dreams remain just that—dreams.
- Don’t Neglect Your Relationships – Your personal relationships are just as important as your business goals, if not more so. The way you treat those closest to you reflects how you’re treating yourself. If you’re not happy with how you’re showing up in your relationships, take a step back and realign your priorities.
A New Life Purpose
After going through this process of reflection, I came to a new understanding of my purpose. It wasn’t just about building a successful business or hitting financial milestones. It was about becoming someone I could truly love—someone who grows every day, both personally and professionally.
Here’s the life purpose I’ve committed to: "My purpose is to grow continuously as a person—mind, heart, and soul—by striving to be a better husband, a dedicated entrepreneur, and someone who seeks fulfillment through both personal and professional achievements. I will embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and work daily to create a life of purpose, positivity, and authenticity, while inspiring others to do the same."
This purpose isn’t just for me. It’s a reminder that each of us has the power to create the life we want. We just need to take action, even when it’s hard, and remember that personal growth is the foundation for everything else we do.
Conclusion: Your Journey Starts Now
If you’re reading this and it resonates with you, know that you’re not alone. We all face moments of doubt, frustration, and fear. But those moments can be the catalyst for change if we allow them to be. Take a moment to reflect on where you are and where you want to be. What small steps can you take today to move closer to the life you truly want?
Don’t wait for “eventually.” Life is too short to sit back and wish things were different. It’s time to stand up, face the challenges, and take the steps you need to find the success and fulfillment you’re searching for—whether in business, relationships, or personal growth.
As for me, I’ve committed to pushing forward. Quitting is no longer an option. I’ve spent too long chasing the next big thing, thinking it would solve everything. The truth is, the solution starts with me, and I’m ready to embrace that.
Live with your purpose.

Your message should resonate with anyone who's found themselves feeling “off course” despite pushing forward. It's inspiring to see how you’ve navigated those feelings of disconnection and been able to put them towards growth.
Keep pushing forward man!
I appreciate the great comments Kyle.
I want others that are not able to share their own challenges to know that they are not alone. It's the sacrifice of standing up and fighting for what's important to us.
Never say never because opportunity may be standing right in front of us.
Thanks again Kyle for the inspiring commitments to the WA community.

Wow! And yes, your post DOES resonate with me as well! I've been in a very similar journey, and your post articulates the process beautifully.
I now live in an extremely rural area, so isolation has become an overwhelming challenge. Online communities are my absolute lifeline, so I am grateful to have discovered your post today.
My next steps are to stay true to my purpose, keep believing in the vision for the business I envision, and value my own voice enough to continue sharing my thoughts with the world.
I have been pondering sharing a similar update with the WA community, so your post is just the nudge I have needed to actually take the steps to do so.
Thank you for your vulnerability and for sharing your tremendous insights. I am moved to take further action, so thanks for the nudge!!
Connie, I am so blessed to have individuals like yourself see that life came be a challenge, but, when faced with it, we will never back down. You are an inspiration to the community.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart that I was able to be your "nudge."
Can't wait to hear more of your growth and success.

Oh, my ... thank you, Rick. Your response brings tears to my eyes, because feeling that I belong anywhere in this world has been my (lifelong) greatest challenge. To think that I belong at WA is high honor. So, I will go and let this stream of tears do it's cleansing, and then... I will write the next blog post that I have been needing to share with all of you. THANK YOU FOR THIS. <3 With a grateful heart, Connie
