No's Are Good !

Most of the time. we think as NO to be negative or not such a good thing. But, it can bring very positive results.

During my initial training as a coffee salesperson (100 years ago), I learned the VALUE OF NO's. I was assigned to a wile veteran of sales to teach me the ropes. My instructions were to meet him at 6:00am in the inner city to begin the day. Seemed very early to me, but what did I know. I was a newbie. I was at designated place at 6 am sharp.

My instructions were to begin calling on every restaurant on one side of main street and just introduce my self, obtain a menu and leave---meet him back at lunch with results. I met him for lunch with 15 names and menus. To my surprise, he gave me $75.00 for each call. Next, go to other side of street repeat process, and meet again at 4:00 pm. Realizing the potential, my activity increased with a $125.00 payout for results of 25 names/menus. In conversation with friends over coffee that evening, I explained to all that "I just got the best job in the world". All I have to do is provide names and I get paid.

In the next couple of days I learned the process of making calls with No results was required to find customers willing to buy. The old experinced salesman (#1 in nation with company by the way),explained "you have to have no's to ever get a yes". Valuable lesson that proved to be invaluable in my sales career.

Prospects or No's in numbers will create success in any sales or marketing effort. So, don't get discouraged with No's, but excited that you are building a base of customers.

Hi Rick - I understand completely as I was doing a bit with a MLM compqany and they taught go out and get 9 no's because the tenth will be a yes and funny thing it was about right !!!

Not always easy to "understand defeat", but really is true. I never liked the saying "it's a numbers game" I prefer each attempt to be a learning experience---just need to get more experience,
