Empower Network Complaints Are On The Rise

Last Update: August 31, 2013

Hi everyone.

It's nice to see that the number of complaints against EN have increased since I last looked (based on Better Business Bureau and my own search results). If you don't know, I once belonged to Empower Network and got the SEO wind knocked out of my sails! Why? Let's see:

  • they taught us to use duplicate content
  • the focus was on making money first
  • improper training of Adsense (got me banned), pay per click...and, well, let's just say, improper training
  • their emphasis on article spinners (guess who made money if you bought those, too)
  • there was no training of keyword research or writing good content
  • find your own niche?...non-existent

So why am I bringing this up again? Number one, we need to continue writing honest reviews for people because even with an increase in complaints take a look at what Google Trends is showing (the most recent spike is August 2013):

They are still on the rise which I find extremely surprising, given that they are dropping off the search engine radars. But they must still be getting the word out there because they are being searched for regularly, in fact I'm still jostling with one of them for rankings with Baby Boomers; another scam perpetrated on this and, arguably, every generation.

My number two reason for writing about this (should likely be my #1): I had occasion today to look at my old website (they don't let you delete them) and it is still there with all the duplicate content and other poor search engine optimization techniques. Because I cannot delete it or do anything with it tells me that I never owned it!

How different from Wealthy Affiliate where the focus is on learning properly how to build a website and build your online business. Another big difference is that you can own your own website and have total control, which is what being in business is all about. I learned a great thing about the support here the other night on Labman's after-Wabby hangout: we learn how to teach (and be taught), laugh, and feel each other's pain when personal circumstances become difficult. All EN does is call you a wussy if you don't get "all in" and pay them thousands of dollars. Which would you rather be with?

To all of you here who have also come from EN, welcome and I think you'll agree with me. To those here who still think EN is valuable, welcome but I encourage you to read Kyle's post on it...guess who's on page one of Google trying to change the trend. Thanks for reading.

There is only one reason they are on the rise. There residual income is better. If I get 200 sales at Empower under my name and they go all in. I would make close to $900,000. If I sell wealthy affiliate and make 200 sales I make $4,400. I would have to have hundreds of sales or even thousands to get to that number.
Residual income would be at Empower Network $25,000 a month. Now that Money. They do have really good training from there affiliates. But I do have to say wealthy affiliate has excellent training. I say join both. Why not.

Rick Jantz Premium
A lot of "ifs" for either program. But the one thing I found with EN was that there was no product, no real training. And you don't own your website, they do. Even after two years of being out they're still maintaining and updating my site. So it confirms that I never had control to begin with. At least at WA there is proper training to build an online business and it's based on quality and focusing on your reader. EN was focused on selling a product that didn't exist, except to resell that very product. And most people can't afford the $5,000 or so to "get all in".

If you leave wealthy affiliate you don't keep the blog, just like empower. Just use word press its all free.

I would move my domain to different hosting. And wordpress.com is very limited (can't use plugins) and wordpress.org I don't believe is free (I've never used it). If you have a siterubix site you don't get to keep it if you leave WA. But if you're serious about working online I think you would want to own your own domain, especially at 10 bucks or so a year.
Reply
ArpL Premium
You keep the two website with the free account so there's no losing anything, unless you go premium, have more than 2 sites, then cancel.

Regardless - exporting your data from WordPress is easy so you can always replicate what you have with Siterubix on another host.

Question: how big is your list and how much do they trust you? That will determine your Empower earnings. When someone says they made $10k in an hour, it's likely they have a list in the tens of thousands AND have signed up people who are sending them passups.

$4,400 seems like chump change compared to $25k but it is WAY more likely that WA members will continue with WA than anyone will with EN. You might make $25k a few times but wouldn't you rather make $4k/mo steadily for a few years instead?

Hi Rick: I was so close to joining but the pure arrogance of these IPAS guys made me stop myself. In 2009 I joined IPAS with promise of wealth etc. and I put in $2000. That was low end and if I paid more I'd get more. I was to get members by email and then ask them to buy cheap $7.00 ebooks! Then they changed their name to Success Co- pilot and not long after they had this new business, Empower Network. Only $25 a month and so on. I tried to get the $2000 back and I was told that no return on the money was 'the cost of doing business'! I decided not to join because of their dishonest business tactics. Am I happy to be with WA? Yes!

Seriously what other industry tolerates this kind of stupidity....

I also cannot believe how bad their language had become since I left. It was already unprofessional last December but after doing my last review I now need to add vulgar. Most of us can stand some profanity but not on such a continual basis and not when it is directed at "wussies". I suspect this works and appeals to a lot of them because they're on "the cutting edge" if you will. But we're building a business and should be treated with respect.

awareness is key, for those that are not sure about what is being said about EN, I can tell you for a fact that what is stated is true, not only the hype and non-authority platform, but the fact that since they are flagged by FB and Youtube it impacted my personal blog that I had since 2010, flagged by FB "guilty by association" ... I deleted everything on their platform....then shutdown my account.

my personal blog is www.marketingnetworkpro.com. (I have a nice write up on WA )

I agree. Guess all we can do is keep writing reviews. Think I might get one ready for their big new promotion that is supposed to be unveiled September 23rd.

Unfortunately, it will continue to sell. I get hundreds of people every day to my EN review, and many leave comments like, "You can actually make money! Someone told me they are. You didn't make money because you didn't try, so you can't call it a scam. Shame on you!" and bla bla bla.

If it's not EN, it'll be something else. People think making money on the internet is easy, and EN just plays on that assumption. It's usually the skeptics that are wary, or realize the mistake of joining soon after getting in. Some folks just can't be saved.
Reply

You are right, and if you think about it, it is easy to make money online, if you do it back hat. People will eat up just about any promise and send you money. I myself just do not have it in me to take advantage of that. I have to believe in any product I promote, period.

Smart move. Hopefully your friends aren't after you cuz typically you have to start with family and friends and it goes down from there. Fortunately, I refused to do that and so they never knew. I was a member of Empower Network for 4 months. I chose to promote E.N. by blogging every day on my fully optomized, WordPress website. The same template and design that all of the other Empower Network bloggers were using.

I did manage to add my own stats counter and not one person ever visited my blogs in the four months I blogged.

On July 10th, I went to google and typed in Empower Network because I was getting quite upset and I did question the "product" as well. That's when I found Kyle's review. Everything he said about E.N.was true and everything he said about Wealthy Affiliate was true.

Immediately closed my account with Empower Network, deleted all of my 122 blogs and signed up with Wealthy Affiliate with a sigh of relief!

Good for you! It's good to see WA reviews of EN ranking so high so that people get both sides of the argument so they can make an informed decision' I think that's all that any of us ask for. Glad you're here at WA, you won't regret it.

I deleted my blogs from my EN wordpress before I left. Unless things have changed, your username will not be deleted from the EN system (unless its changed in the past 2-3 months) for at least 6 months. This is incase you want to sign back up and your sponsor will still get their payment from you.

EN are opening up in China according to Vick Strizheus (Big Idea Mastermind - EN's best friend) and some other European countries. I don't know when and I don't know if the deal is done and dusted with these countries or not, but time will tell. So if there is a resurrection of EN in a few months time, maybe that will be why.

Perhaps the EN members here at WA could let us know why they choose to stay with them after viewing how we are taught about a web business here at WA?

Wish I had thought of deleting my blogs, oh well. Interesting about opening in China, etc. Did not know that. Have you read Kyle's most recent post on his site about EN 2.0 coming in September. There are vids on ENV2 at youtube. It's their new viral blogging system, but I haven't watched the long vids. Easy sharing of videos from one EN blog to another, and easier way to connect to other EN'ers from the one area/back office or something similar. They said it's going to blow WP away. Don't know if it costs anymore than the regular $25 blog. Maybe Pauls' buddies at EN could enlighten us. As i said, don't know if China is a definite but Vick said EN were heading there. More money for the big boys or those with family over there?

yeah I've seen that pattern lately, the guys (less than 1%) who are actually making money in EN have their own "team" systems that they sell. Of course you can only get this magic pill if you are a bad ass and all in.... I'll give EN this that they do have a really clear warning regarding the reality of actually making money. It's insane that they don't let you delete your blogs, and just shows you how much power they hold over your business. I have heard a few stories of people getting kicked out and unable to retrieve any content as a result.

I did not know you could show things like that with Google trends.

It's great to sometimes take a look at our old work and see how far we come. Sometimes when we focus on the day to day activities of working on our sites we forget just how much we're learning.

Excellent Blog Rick. Besteverhomebusiness is another one to look out for. I followed my gut feeling (thankfully) and then was so very fortunate to 'stumble' across WA. They have been emailing me and have told them I am somewhere else. I did go as far to suggest they research Global Polaris........not good at all. Now I am getting emails saying they have done the research and want to know even more where I am at. I want so much to promote WA but unsure of the legalities surrounding what I have to say about besteverhomebusiness. Is it okay to say nothing and just encourage them to come here to WA. I know here at WA this may sound like the stupidist question ever. I just want to do the right thing by everyone here especially, all those that are supporting and encouraging me. I believe that if one takes advantage of all the opportunities here 'ya can't go wrong!!

What I like to do is ask them to look at my WA review and check it out for themselves. I don't spend a lot of time with these folks because their goal is to sell you their system, regardless what it is. I would let them know about WA, ask them to check it out for themselves, and then ignore them unless they had legitimate questions. Sometimes I refer them to one of Kyle's posts on his website if he has done a review. He gets lots of comments and answers them all. If you need to see it, go to his profile and you will see his Avoid Scams Online site.

It's OK to promote back but I wouldn't waste a lot of time, they're not there to listen to you :(

Is the reason that there are being searched it because of all the warnings out there?
It is very interesting.

Thanks again for the heads up

I think most of the "warnings" come from their own members. They say "don't join until you read this" or "is EN a scam, read here" And it's members of EN posting those, trying to sound open.

Good idea Rick, I think that will be my first project to create an EN review site... The Empower Network Wusses Club...It's OK to be a Wussy and keep your integrity then to be "all in" and do the hokey pokey with the devil.... put your paycheck in, take your commense sense out, and do the EN hokey pokey until your wife kicks you out ;)

Too funny. You might have to add the video and tell everyone to join in.

lol, love this post Dave! I almost got sucked into the EN so I really appreciate the humour you inject into this subject...took the opportunity to follow you as well as I like your style of wit and hope to see / read more of it!

Thanks for the info on EN. I didn't know to much about them. Only was in a month so really didn't get to go through a lot of the stuff. Got out because I wasn't getting the help I wanted. Thankfully I did get out so early.

Good thing you didn't go "all in". You're smarter than me, I got out after about 4 months and paid them about 600.00 in that time. No training and no product, my senses finally caught up with me.

I wonder how many people found WA while researching EN? Kyles blog is on the first page!

I think quite a few, but we still have to do honest reviews so others can decide for themselves. Thanks for reading.

Count me in, dmrutgos, Rick. I googled: "how much does EN cost?" coz i thought i'd give the whole 'wussy' gig another close look. Glad to have come across a WA review.

A friend became enamored with EN coz of big idea mastermind Vic. He got hooked after earning 40 big ones in a few weeks. Even attended one of their meet-ups. Spoke well of Vic claims he's a changed man, etc. Started blogging and emailing his substantial list. Am sure he got plenty to join as he's a pretty decent guy and good internet marketer. Too bad about joining EN, though.

Funny thing, people do smell the foulness of this enterprise.

"Wussies R Us"...perfect. There's a lot of us here. Have you considered doing a review of EN like SerainaLee below?

Great idea Rick! Indeed I will write the review. You are right on the money because I found WA the very same way. In fact, my neighbor had me convinced me that EN was the answer to all our Internet prayers. Unfortunately she is still heavily invested in it with little result to speak of.

Don't tell my wife that I was in it...I didn't. And what does that tell you, I was embarrassed. Would love to read your review.

I actually found WA when trying to find a decent review of EN. I was already paying, fortunately not through the nose, but just wasn't convinced it was legit; heck, I didn't even know what the product was. I think many are coming to WA because of the WA reviews...and that's a hint "sis"...perhaps you should write one if you haven't already.

It's a name I wear with pride. Think we should come up with an "I'm an EN Wussy" badge?

Notice EN has just unveiled a new promotion based on $10,000 per month- new glossy promo materials but basically a redo of their usual hype.

Wow, will it ever end? Thanks for the heads up on this. Wonder how much they want for that? When I was last there their latest promotion only cost you $3500.00.
