Which Comes First? Passion Or Action?
Navigating Online Marketing: Charting Your Course for Success
To all new digital explorers!
There is often repeated, great advice, to people setting out online to focus on a niche that they love.
This means setting out to find an audience of like-minded individuals to whom you can deliver helpful content on your website, that motivates them to take action.
However, contrary to popular belief, in online marketing, the voyage towards success isn’t always charted by a pre-existing passion.
When my daughter, Robyn, was about 6 years old she was given a bicycle for Christmas, Now, cutting a longer story short here, she had trouble learning to ride it, She was scared to give it a go!
There came a point when she stated that she hated her new bike!
I asked Robyn if she had noticed that if she enjoyed something, that she did it more often, got better at it, and then enjoyed it even more?
Robyn agreed.
I then asked, which part of the process came first (only in a form that she understood as an 8 or 9 year old).
After a short discussion Robyn realised that she couldn't know if she enjoyed something if she didn't do it first!
Using my language, she realised that she always started learning by taking action, followed by getting better and eventually having fun.
Now, in reality, exploring online marketing is more like a journey of discovery, like learning to ride a bike, marked by a cycle (no pun intended) of:
- affection (enjoy something),
- action (doing it again),
- repetition (doing it even more)
- refinement (getting even better at it, and enjoying it even more),
That's AARR for short.
But here's the million-dollar question: where does this grand adventure begin?
Is it a spark of initial love for a niche, or perhaps the bold act of leaving a safe harbour that requires setting the sails appropriately?
This query is particularly pertinent for new online marketers, who often try out various niches in search of their first safe haven.
Actually, the answer lies in my name for the AARR cycle.
I call it the Action Cycle.
Success is often not just about anchoring in a niche you adore; it’s about cultivating a love and prowess in the art of sailing (or should I say, marketing) itself.
Let’s embark and see how Wealthy Affiliate (WA) provides trustworthy guidance for beginners, guiding them into the lucrative waters of their chosen niche or, if they prefer, the Make Money Online (MMO) niche, with targeted training.
The Cycle of Success: Love, Do, Improve (Repeat)
The triumph of an online marketer often revolves around a cyclical process that begins with either a deep intrigue in a niche or simply the act of engaging with it.
For most, this adventure starts with action, as in “Do” in the heading – stepping into a niche with curiosity and an eagerness to learn.
As you dig deeper, a genuine interest and affection for the niche may flourish.
This newfound passion ignites your drive to hone your skills, leading to sharper strategies, richer insights, and more inventive ideas.
Witnessing your progress and success, your fondness for both the niche and the marketing process intensifies, spurring further action and continual growth.
Thriving in Multiple Niches: A Marketer's Odyssey With Wealthy Affiliate’s Online Core Training
The Core Training course gets you started in a marketplace that you love. If you love a particular subject, you are much more likely to keep going, when the going gets tough; it will get tough at times.
This is where the Core Training excels.
However, it’s a common myth in online marketing that you must start with a burning passion for a specific niche.
In truth, the journey of many marketers is more like a dynamic odyssey.
Explorers frequently find themselves excelling in various niches, some initially feeling as foreign as sailing in uncharted waters.
Most importantly, before long, they realise that the driving force behind what they do, that leads to their success, is their growing love for the role of marketing (the process) itself.
As marketers navigate through different niches, their marketing acumen sharpens, and an appreciation for these new territories blossoms.
This flexibility and willingness to explore unknown lands are the hallmarks of a successful digital marketer.
In this adventure, marketers gather invaluable insights about consumer behaviour, market trends, and effective communication strategies.
These pearls of wisdom are transferable across different niches, bolstering the marketer's versatility and ability to adapt to new challenges and opportunities.
The skill to set sails through rough and smooth waters is refined through taking action, noticing results and building experience.
Each new niche is fertile ground for experimentation and learning, enriching the marketer's knowledge and expertise.

The Power of Flexibility and Adaptability in Online Marketing
A key lesson in the realm of online marketing is the significance of grasping the basics then developing flexibility and adaptability.
The digital ocean is akin to the ever-changing sea, with new trends, technologies, and consumer behaviours emerging like waves. Successful marketers are those who can swiftly adjust their sails to these changes, continually learning and evolving their strategies.
The ability to pivot and embrace new ideas and approaches is fundamental to staying afloat and competitive in the online marketing ocean.
For marketers who venture into multiple niches, this adaptability becomes even more essential.
Each niche presents unique characteristics, audience preferences, and market currents. Marketers must be skilled at deciphering these nuances and tailoring their strategies to navigate these waters successfully.
Such adaptability not only aids in achieving success in various niches but also contributes to a well-rounded skill set, invaluable in the ever-changing world of online marketing.
A Mindset Of Continuous Learning and Growth
At the heart of the online marketing journey is the ethos of continuous learning and growth.
The cycle of affection, action, improvement, and repetition isn’t just about reaching short-term destinations; it’s about embarking on a long-term voyage of personal and professional development.
Marketers who embrace this mindset of ceaseless learning are better equipped to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities that come their way. They are more likely to innovate, experiment, and push beyond the known horizons in their marketing endeavours.

Summary
The journey of an online marketer is a captivating cycle of discovery, action, refinement, and affection.
Whether you embark with a specific passion or chart your course through initial action, what’s most important is your readiness to engage, learn, and evolve your marketing skills.
Wealthy Affiliate provides a structured map into the world of online marketing, but ultimately, it’s your own journey through the Action Cycle that shapes your success.
In the dynamic realm of online marketing, your prowess to adapt, continuously learn, and embrace new challenges is the true compass to achieving lasting success and fulfilment.
