Ranking on Google is harder than I thought.

Well it's almost Chrismas which also means that it's getting closer for my site's second month anniversary. Although have noticed some traffic on my site, most of it is just from me. I'm currently trying to figure out why my IP filter is not working on Google analytics so that I can get a realist idea of my site's traffic.

Now I did notice that that my "organic search" traffic has increased from around 2% to 5% in the last two weeks. Although my first 10 posts have been getting indexed, some of my more recent ones haven't even been indexed yet, let alone, ranked. Now I managed to get my second to most recent post indexed with 1,800 words typed and media added, it seems to be getting harder to get content indexed.

Now content that did get indexed isn't ranking too well. Perhaps it takes longer (I've read anywhere between 3-6 months) to actually rank on Google. I try to ignore people like some guy I saw on YouTube that says he can get new content ranked to the top of Google in just 20 minutes. These people just make beginners like me less confident as it nearly takes weeks to just get indexed, let only ranked.

So the reality is that it isn't that easy to rank in Google. This is why I think it is crucial to use social media to your advantage to get traffic. I hope this post has helped beginners like me know that getting ranked is going to take time. The best thing you can do is shut out those that make it sound easy so that you can lower your expectations. Building up a trustworthy brand takes time. It could however lead to some unexpected results in the near future. I sure hope so.
