“Adopt the mindset of a savvy gambler…You increase your odds by building new skills, setting and attempting to reach new goals, and repeating the process over and over again until it works. If you want to increase your odds of success, you have to roll the dice.” – Ayodeji Awosika

This is one of my favorite quotes from the book, Real Help: An Honest Guide to Self-Improvement. Here at WA we are all increasing our odds of success by building new skills. Keep learning and growing your skillset.

If you want to create a successful online business you need a growth mindset.

Why You Need a Growth Mindset

Dr. Carol Dweck, a Stanford psychologist, spent years studying intelligence and concluded that many people hold one of two mindsets: a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. Here are the definitions I found at edglossary:

“In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort.”

“In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.”

Do you have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset? What do you do when you hit roadblocks?

When You Encounter Obstacles, Ask for Help

There is so much to learn, it can feel overwhelming. I struggle with the technological aspects of building an online business, but whenever I hit an obstacle, I use the search bar on the upper left-hand corner of my screen here at WA to find the answer. If the answer is not there, I ask the question. There are always people here ready to help.

Remember the quote above about adopting the mindset of a savvy gambler as you make your way. Keep building your skills, set new goals, repeat the process over and over again and you’ll increase your odds of success.

Long-term Success Takes Time

Be patient. Long-term success takes time. Here's a quote for inspiration. It has become the mantra of my WA journey:

“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.”― Bill Gates

A fixed mindset is like a car that is stuck in the mud, it won't be going anywhere!

Great analogy, Ryan.
