Choosing UNUSUAL domain names for MORE CLICKS !
Hi everybody
I'm as veteran in online businesses and as we all know 2 of the most crucial elements in succeeding are getting TRAFFIC and making SALES.
Bad experiences from the past still haunt me. Several times I've FAILED mainly because I did not get enough traffic and made ZERO sales (YES : NONE...not even 1 or 2)
I read a couple of times that it possible to use silly and unusual domain names simply to get people curious and get MORE CLICKS therefore improving your odds of making sales
I am talking about crazy domain names like for example getpaidtodrinkbeer.com or something similar
You can even tell visitors in the first few paragraphs the truth : that you only needed to get their attention.
And if you promote a home based business most of the times technically you wouldn't be lying.In this case for example,people could actually get paid while drinking beer ( while working at home)
Again ..the bad experiences from the past still haunt me.The number ZERO is pretty depressing.
Never made any money from selling physical products of information
However I managed to make $300 a month in pay per click programs.Also made some money selling on Ebay
I stopped my online ventures in late 2008 and just came back for good in last December after 5 years with WA.
I've just realized that I will always HATE having a regular job (not lazy at all : just hate being a SLAVE) and I'd love to live off the internet even if I earn less money than working (not easy but doable)
So to all the PROS out there : What do you think about UNUSUAL domain names ?
...do you think you can get more clicks just of curiosity ?

I'm definitely not a pro, but if I went to your website because I wanted to know how I could drink beer and make money from home (using your example), and you were trying to sell me on something else, I'd leave and you can bet your bottom dollar I wouldn't trust anything else that had to do with you. Just my $0.02 from a visitor's perspective.
Thanks for your advice ...I've already made my mind : I will simply have 2 websites running : One with a "normal" and super low traffic domain name and another one with an "unusual" domain name that I'm sure will make people curious
I'd rather have people clicking on my website thinking is something else and running way rather than having them crushing me like a cockroach by ignoring me and NOT clicking at all (Remember my post : I have a lot of experience with very low traffic and ZERO sales....believe me that's really frustrating and I DONT want that to happen again)

I think unusual names are absolutely the way to go, but I also think niche relativity is important. IMO If it's eye grabbing that's great but if your catching the attention of people that don't care about your information it really isn't helpful.

Hi - unusual domain names may help people remember your site - but if someone is searching in google/bing etc - they search for what they are looking for, not your domain name. So in that context, your domain name doesn't matter - content is what will get you ranked, and get you visitors.
