Chat for Newbies | FYI
For Newbies visiting chat for the first time...
(The rest of you can skip this post and not miss anything :)I really wanted to call this blog post
The Dreaded Chat Monster
but for the sake of those this blog is directed at, I titled it in the hopes that WA newbies would easily find it.Because...
I see newbies in chat all the time and we welcome them. However, all newbies need to know a little something about a chat glitch. Sometimes chat stops loading new comments so you may type in a comment and not see it appear after you hit Enter and comments from others will stop loading as well. We call this The Chat Monster.
When this happens, simply Refresh the page and chat will come back. If you just typed a comment when it stops working for you, you may lose the comment once the page refreshes. Simply retype the comment and it will show up.
Tip: When I type a particularly long comment, I copy it before I hit the Enter button to send it to the chat. This way, if the Chat Monster strikes in the middle of my commenting, I don't have to re-type the whole dang thing over again.
I hope this helps you when you visit Chat. I look forward to seeing you there and getting to know you better. Don't be shy! Stop by and say Hi!
And if the Chat Monster strikes you, strike him back!

Wow, thanks for sharing that! You truly prevented me from going completely nuts, because that's what would have happened if I had typed a paragraph and it disappeared lol
LOL Nice to meet you in chat today :) I got a great lesson from MissionOps. He is awesome! Good Luck with all you do and don't be a stranger!
Yes, I saw your chat with him. It was a great opportunity to learn. I'm really excited to be a part of this community. Thanks, and good luck to you too.
Great piece Renni. I didn't realise what was happening when I first joined and often thought the chatroom was simply empty because of my timezone. Kyle did mention recently that the chat is due for an update soon. In the meantime, I'll add that it's cmd-r on a Mac for refresh. I've also noticed that if you're following the chat on a mobile device, a reboot is unfortunately sometimes necessary to unstick it, just closing and fully quitting a browser app alone may not work.
Thanks for the mobile and Mac tips, Rich. I wouldn't know about them so glad you do!
I don't think the chat room is ever empty. We have peeps all over the world here :)
Couple of things you missed there dear. F5 is the typical way to refresh your page. The shortcut for copy is Cntrl-C, and Cntrl-V to paste.
One other nice feature is the Reply button that will add the blue @membername to the front of your post.
Ok Craig...you are being a true big bro here :)
This wasn't a chat lesson but could have been if I hadn't written it near midnite...lol
I figure everyone knows refresh, c&p, but you're right ---never assume.
good tip that the Reply button is necessary to know. That way everyone else knows who you're talking to in particular.
So let's mention that if you just want to make a general comment or have a question for everyone you don't need to use the Reply button as well. :)

thanks for the great info. just hoop up now. pls where is the best place to start?
On the left side of your main screen is the menu list. Look down until you find the Recommended Training Header. Read through those 3 first.
Thanks Craig. :)
