How to create good habits

Human beings being creatures of habit. we do what we are accustomed to doing whether it is a good habit or bad habit. Here are a few simple steps to help you create good habits and drop the bad ones.

Just as a point of reference a bad habit is repetitive negative behaviour and provides no positive elements to your well-being. Refer to the four rules listed below if you want to get started creating good habits.

Become aware of your habits

you want to create good habits then you have to become aware of what habits you currently have, are they good are they bad?. Identifying the habit you want to create is the first step to getting started, You can make a list of habits you currently have and identify them as good or bad to see exactly what is needed, once you have done this you can then determine what good habits are needed and implement a plan as to how to achieve them.

A good plan will be very specific steps that you need to do at specific time and in a specific way. This is needed when now starting, once you have become accustomed to taking these steps on regular basis it will will become automatic, something you do without having to think about it

Make good habits Attractive

method works as a sort of reward for completing steps in your plan of action. For example you can pair reading one chapter in a self help book and watching a movie or one episode of your favorite TV series, The habit you want to start reading daily and the action you want to do watch your favorite TV series. Again if you want to start reading every day, join a book reading club, what are you going to discuss with the other members if you do not read the book?

The reward method is a wonderful motivator to take action and provides a win win scenario. We all love win win situations so set yourself up to win each and every time, With constant action the inevitable will happen, it becomes habit and once habit is established it something that is automated by the brain, you won't even have to think about it.

Make it easy to do

Human nature again we hate to do the hard stuff and gravitate towards the easier actions. If you want to start a new habit make it easy to do. Set it up before had so that its ready and waiting to be done. In the reading example decide beforehand where you are going to read your chapter, If in the bedroom put the book close to your bed, have the pillow propped up and just waiting to receive you.

So you decided to read a chapter a day but you are finding it difficult to sit and read a whole chapter, then by all means reduce the amount that you set to read. If reading 5 to 10 pages is something that is easy for you to do then do that. Remember the goal is to form the habit of reading every day, When the habit is formed it is an easy task to increase the amount that you read each day.

Make it satisfying

How can you make it satisfying? Examine the benefits of the habit you are trying to create, write it down and read them every day to remind yourself of what is the end result of the habit. Also, reward yourself immediately after doing the need action. This would build up the satisfaction you feel and again act as motivation to continue until the goal is achieved.

Celebrate your achievements. You manage to read a whole chapter, 5 pages, 10 pages, every day this week go on celebrate it is way past the number zero which is the number you would have ready if you did nothing. You are progressing and moving forward,

We all fall off the wagon sometimes, the important thing is to get back on. keep track of your daily progress, so you have a visual record of your progress that you can look at to remind yourself of how well you are doing. Make it a rule to never miss two days in a row. If you miss a day make sure and get back on the wagon the next day so that the habit-forming progress can continue. It is easy to fall back into the habit of not going it because that is already the habit that exist.

In a nutshell

Make sue of your natural instincts and human tendencies and leverage them to create positive results. We always like doing what is easy and fun. We dislike doing anything that is hard and we tend to try to avoid doing them. When setting up your plan for creating a new habit keep these in mind. Leverage them to create a natural advantage that will ensure your success.
