First off, what is SEO? SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is a free way to get traffic to your website.

It is the tools to get Google to rank your site high on searches, carried out by the public. We have to show Google that OUR content is the most relevant to those searches.

The more traffic we get to our site the more chance that it will be successful and we will start making money through Google Adsense. (Google Ads)

The most effective way to get ranked in Google is to have fresh, unique, helpful content. If you want to succeed you need to get into the mindset of creating good quality content. It is the foundation of everything you need to get ranked high.

It needs to be engaging to make readers want to stay on the page. If readers come and go quickly from your site you will have a high bounce rate, this will show Google that your content is not worth ranking high. My advice would be to write engaging content and to place internal links to other content on your website, this will reduce your bounce rate.

Aim for your content to be around 500 – 1500 words. Don’t just put fluff out there as that will go against you. Make sure it is well written, researched and helpful content for your readers. Aim to get fresh ideas out there, talk about the latest hot topics.

Post content often. The more the better. If you are not too busy try to aim for a post a day. If you work full time this will be difficult. Try to arrange a blogging routine and stick to it. 3 times a week would be a good goal if you do work full time, but it depends on your circumstances.

Next you want to make sure that your content is easy to read on all devices, especially mobile as most people will read your blog from a mobile

A lot of people focus too much on keywords and it can actually cause more damage than good. Google is smart and will punish you for using them inappropriately, especially if they are making your content less readable. Your SEO and ranking will go down if you stuff your content with keywords. It’s best to have Keywords in the title and the same ones in the first paragraph. Then just focus on creating great readable content for your audience.

3- HTML

I’m not a big expert on HTML but I will cover the basis that Google requires helping you get ranked. First off, you want to have a title with keywords that are relevant to your content on that page, the title is the most important thing when it comes to HTML. Google wants to know what your content is about, so make this clear in the title. You can do this by finding keywords that are relevant.

Next you want to make sure the meta description tag explains the content. Like a blurb for a book. It’s important it describes what your content is about. The user may find your title when they search Google but the description will help them decide whether to click on your content or not.

4-Trust and Authority – Counts for 23.87% of googles ranking

If people trust you, and you have a lot of authority in your field, you will be ranked higher. To get this trust and authority you need to give your site time to grow and gain that trust. The longer the site has been around and has been updated with great quality content the better trust you will have with Google.

Next Google sees your site as an authority if others are linking to your blog. I link to other blogs all the time. But I try to limit theses as I’m showing Google I’m not an Authority and readers are best going elsewhere. This will increase my bounce rate also.

Google also looks at your engagement. Are you getting comments, like and shares? Are people engaging with your content? You will need to invite comments on all your pages and post and make your articles topical.

Google looks if your content is being shared on social media. It also looks if those with a good reputation on social media are sharing your content.

To succeed with your website you will need to have some kind of social media presence. Start a page on Facebook, get a twitter account and start sharing your content.
