Lesson learnt and how not to waste time
As a new member here at WA and still in full time employment, albeit with an insecure future, I really can’t afford to waste time. My day job is not 9 – 5, it migrates into evenings, weekends… leaving little time for anything else. Setting a new routine and a good deal of self-discipline are required to learn, learn more, write, check, dismiss, learn, write again…well, you know how it is. And then there is the website building. I would be dishonest if I said that it didn’t worry me, to say the least. To start in lesson three was, I felt, too much of a challenge. After all, I am of a generation that was not born with a remote control in my tiny fist. Maybe this whole idea of online marketing was more for a younger generation. You see how easy it is for fear to generate doubt?
Then I watched Kyle’s video and of course everything was easy and straightforward. No more fears. No more doubts. I can do this! Except, it didn’t work. Something was wrong on my site that didn’t allow me to do what seemed so simple in Kyle’s demonstration. I watched again. I tried again. I read WP help sites, read blogs, tried to contact WP, asked the WA community and got one kind suggestion. Nothing. Instead of learning I wasted all my free time for three days! Early this morning I listened to Kyle’s video again. And suddenly I heard it, the one crucial sentence that did not register before.
Everything is fine now and as it should be. Except that I feel foolish. I am an educator and teach, among other things, listening skills, and here I am, making such a huge mistake, wasting so much time, letting self-doubt buildingup – and all because I didn’t listen.
The lesson I learnt? At this point at WA I am a student. Making money right now is secondary. It will happen, I’m sure. But first and foremost I must listen and learn and never again waste my precious time.

It's OK. It's a realization we have to come to as teachers, and as well as others, that sometimes we have to just sit down and listen and learn. We spend a lot of time doing, and we need to spend a lot of time learning because this is new to us!
If you get stuck on anything else, send me a pm, and I'll see what I can do to help.
