I'm in need of community advice.
This problem has to do with online work and computers and not with WA. I'm stymied by a problem that the master brains in our community might be able to help me with. Here in Ecuador we have a government agency similar to the Social Security Administration. Ecuador has a 14% VAT on everything except basic foods and medications. If you are over the age of 65 you are allowed to submit forms with receipt records recorded on the forms. This money is then refunded to you up to an amount of $100 a month.
A person is given a code to enter the administrations web site. You have a secure sign in and click on various buttons to get to a declarations page that happens to be Microsoft XL. I get a message that product activation has failed. I click on "enable editing" and I can fill in the form; but there is no "Submit button". No "Send button". The only thing that works is the "Save button".
Why should I need to activate XL when it is the administrations web site that takes me there? Microsoft gives me messages that my software might be counterfeit! What do you recommend? Where do I start? I bought this computer here in Ecuador three years ago and never used the Microsoft products that were a shortcut on my desktop. What could be the problem? Please advise. Bob

I know that when I run into similar situations (no submit button)
clicking the enter key will submit your info.
Hello Terry. Thank you for taking the time to reply. In this case clicking the enter key simply moves you down to the next line. The government agency needs to give me an admin key, or I need to take my laptop back to the store and ask them for an activation key.
I cannot use anything other than XL because that is what the government web site uses. I think they need to give me an admin key, or I'll need to go back to the store where I bought my laptop and ask them for an activation key. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I gave you a follow. Bob

Hi Bob I lived 31years in Costa Rica. This is a government document you are talking about and that has nothing to do with Microsoft it is a program made by the governmental officials and they have made a mistake in the application. I find that yes Central and South America are laid back they will eventually find the mistake and correct it . In the mean time it will go a lot quicker going directly to the source. Ya I know it takes longer. you might think of letting the source know about the problem so they can correct it. Latin’s are very helpful generous people. I don't know about Ecuador but Costa Rica has moved forward very Quickly in the last 10 years in Technology. Education is the #1 priority in her government. The salt of the earth people from all walks of life are today Doctores, Abogados, Engenieros Electricos , Miestros ex ex.
Espero que as apendio Espaniol que tengas un buen dia Linda
Linda. Thank you for your comments. I have never experienced a site as unclear as the one for SRI. Servicias de Rentas Internas. I gave up on the electronic submission and wrote it out by hand. As a matter of fact I was over to their office this morning and submitted it. Ecuador is behind Costa Rica when it comes to services. The terramoto last April is costing the country hundreds of millions. The infrastructure here on the coast lags behind the larger cities. But hey! Low cost of living is why we're here. I did go to a computer service store and get the Microsoft XL activated by them. They represent the store where I bought this laptop. Still can't figure out how to do the submission electronically. So I will continue writing it by hand once a quarter. Thanks again Linda. Bob
It is nice to communicate with those that live in Latin America. For many year people would ask me if I was American. My answer was yes from Canada. And always would add that they were Americans also of Costaricans of Central America. When you live and breath in the same hemisphere we are all Americans. North Central and South, Your way of looking at things become much broader. don't you think

Yes Linda. And think about this: Columbia is in North America because it is north of the ecuador! It took me a few years to think this way along with many conversations: but I began to think it wasn't right to call myself an American, North America, Central America, and South America: we are all Americans! I really don't know how this whole business of United States citizens referring to themselves as "Americans" started. Mexico is also in North America, Politics, trade, local customs, history, and language have separated us. Unfortunate. Bob
It comes with being in-touch with the American Continent. If we think about the North American Indian Bands. We call them First Nations people. but in reality the Latin Americans are First Nations people also.I think Latin America would included Columbia, but it is an interesting tidbit about being in the North American Hemisphere.
Have a great day

Thank you for the response Linda. I agree with you on First Nations comment. The natives here really don't have much support from the European Spanish. They are looked down upon. The US was terrible in their treatment of the American Indian, but I think the Spanish were even worse. A clash of cultures and the people with the more advanced weapons became the winners. A sad history with repercussions still happening today. The colonization mind set that started from Europe along with an idea of racial superiority. It was an educational superiority coupled with technology.
Thanks Bob for listening to my rambling, Well a least there is a lot of mind sets that are changing.
En reality the Latin’s are a beautiful people. And those that that visit and live amongst them have the same opinion. Like every thing there is good and bad.
But I think there is still a lot more good in this world still, then there is bad. The US and Canada has brought together world wide nations people and we have mingled.
Me as a Canadian I have Jewish,Welsh, Scottish, English, Dutch, German, first nations,Swedish, Italian, and African. Know my children have also Latin. So that is what makes us Americans.
The Latin's, are predominate Spanish,Portuguese, Italian, Jewish,Chinese and African. There is a bit of German and French in the mix. Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela.
My children’s mix in also Spanish,Jewish, Chinese and African and because I am a Canadian citizen. So they are also Canadians even if they were born in Latin America. So this world is getting very small don't you think.
