Anyone Heard of The New Panda 4.0 Stuff?

I thought I'd write a blog for you guys about Panda 4.0 that I received from my own Examiner account:

Due to recent Google search algorithm updates (affectionately known as Panda 4.0) and our own research into content that surfaces highly in search engines, we’ve decided to implement a character minimum on all Examiner.com articles and reviews.

Of late, we've noticed that Google is cracking down more and more on what it refers to as "thin content" (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2604719?hl=en). This refers to content that simply collects and restates information from other outlets, rather than bringing extra information or insight to a given topic. Our sincere hope is that by imposing a minimum character limit, we can entice Examiners to include that extremely valuable extra step in each piece that's published.

The new minimum is 1,500 characters, which will average about 300 words. We’ve determined that content shorter than 1,500 characters is often deemed to be too thin or already covered in-depth by other outlets. When search engines crawl articles, they’re looking for content that is substantive and of high value.

Longer, more descriptive articles have a higher chance of surfacing on the front page of search engines, whether they're newsworthy or not. However, if your 1,500 character article is composed almost entirely of quotes from other sites, Google will determine that it lacks originality, and your article’s visibility will decrease.

As always, remember that content is king. Writing quality, engaging content that people want to read will result in the best search engine indexing.

Best,

Examiner.com

I was wondering if the courses will be updating accordingly to these new changes or if they already have. From my understanding, I heard that this new change is relevantly new. Let me know what you guys think and if Kyle and Carson are reading this, will there be any future content about this in the coming future? Perhaps a webinar or something?

Hi Ruben, as far as I can remember, any training here, has always suggested that four to five hundred words would be the least to use for an article/post. Most that I have seen recommend to try to use about 800 words.

Only reason I can think of going shorter, especially for your own site would be if you have a video in place of some of the text. And even then, text content is king.

Best practice, provide an expandable area featuring a transcript of the video. What that is, is a link that can be clicked on, that will expand that area. Have a complete transcript of your video there. One reason for it, it takes up almost no room, but it is available if they want to read it. Even more importantly SEO wise, is that the search engine can read it, (as long as not in a frame). Boom you have your content, keywords and all, doing its SEO work for you. Best wishes on your endeavors.
