The Oyster and the Pearl

The oyster is an excellent symbol of success. After trial and error, it emerges victorious, a wondrous pearl by grinding its way through a sandy terrain. The process begins as a particle (irritant) gets inside the oyster’s shell. The oyster must struggle with these particles for four years. However, without this struggle, there would be no pearl.

An Oyster Symbolizes Potential and Hope

Although the oyster has a hard shell (bivalve mollusk), ironically, it is soft inside. This demonstrates both its masculine and feminine characteristics. The Oyster as a spirit guide reflects a passive, yet strong nature, their Yin and Yang characteristics. Oysters symbolize potential and hope, as well as random choice.

A Natural Treasure

A pearl is one of the earth’s most beautiful natural treasures. Although they have been around for thousands of years, they continue to be a well-loved commodity in modern times. In fact, they are the only gemstone that comes from a living creature.

Today, freshwater pearls, available on the market, come primarily from China, while Saltwater pearls are found off the coast of Japan, French Polynesia, and Australia. Each pearl is unique in appearance, quality, and price.

Peace and Harmony

The oyster is a tightly closed mollusk, protecting itself and hiding its actions from observers. It learns to live with the currents, showing us how to have balance in our lives. It is simple, quiet, peaceful, and harmonious with its surrounding.

Toughness and Strength

While the oyster is small, its shell is tough and very strong. The shell is built to withstand outside forces and turbulent waters. The strength of the oyster is a reminder that we are built to withstand much more than we think can handle and can recover from events even stronger than before.

Turning Struggle into Triumph

The oyster and the pearl are both associated with good things. The oyster symbolizes the kingdom of heaven. From specs of dirt, stress and other negative factors, the oyster turns all of these into triumphant little gems known as pearls.

Through the oyster we have access to this wonderful ability. We turn problems into our little triumph. We turn bad situations into beautiful ones.

Supposedly, the Goddess of love, Aphrodite, was born of the sea. Most paintings symbolize this birth atop a seashell.
