How to get Gmail to respond from your forwarded domain email

Something I learned last night which may help others in a similar situation. I managed to get gmail to respond to an email from my domain's email account. Yippee!

Now technically, I wasn't up to this part of the training in WA yet but I kinda zoomed ahead and skipped a couple of lessons (sorry Kyle & Carson) in my excitement. I tried to search for the answer here in WA but didn't see it immediately so I googled and tinkered.

Anyhoos....here's how I got gmail to respond as from my domain's email. The streamlined version.

1) created a gmail account specifically to handle this website's email. I used gmail as I already use it personally and have it set up on my phone so it was a no brainer for me to go back and start another gmail email.

2) created domain specific email forward using site Rubix's domain email manager as shown by Kyle (found this video by searching in the search bar in WA) sending it to the gmail that was just created

3) signed into gmail account, went to settings (little gear icon), went to accounts & forwards tab (about 4th tab on along the top), under "send mail as" clicked on "use another email address". Gmail then pops open another window. Entered the domain email I wanted to write from through gmail, clicked next, filled in the SMTP details as found on site Rubix - so changed the SMTP server, changed the logon, changed the port and added the password. Gmail then needs verification that the email is actually yours so...

4) in site Rubix, deleted the email forwarding that was created in step 2. Yes delete.

5) created an email inbox in site Rubix for the same email address. Sign into it. Retrieved the gmail verification code.

6) entered the gmail verification code into the gmail account pop up window.

7) in site Rubix, deleted the newly created inbox of the domain email and re-created the email forward back to gmail as in step 2 above.Yes delete. Now site Rubix would have created a new password under SMTP, find that password.

8) in gmail, head back into settings, accounts & forwards, send mail as, and click on "edit info" on the far right against the newly verified domain email address. Change the password on the pop up window. Change option under "send mail as" section to "reply from the same address the message was sent to"

9) Test the set up.

10) celebrate success!

If this has helped you, I would love to hear about it! If the instructions are unclear - let me know so I can improve them.

ps. After having typed all this up, I discovered that in fact others have also blogged about this exact solution in WA. Oops.

I'm a little nervous to delete my email. You were able to recreate the exact same email address right?

Hi Thanks for this! It helped me made my domain email functional.
However, I haven't done steps 5-7. the verification email went through to my forward email and verify it from there.

Anyhow, THANKS A LOT!

Many Thanks!

This mail thing was driving me crazy!

Hi nice one! Can share with me the url for this training?

It depends, no spamming but if you want to post your URL then it is best practice to make your own blog and reference this one if needed.

Hi Shane, I think you mistaken my question. I asking for the WA url that show this particular training on email forwarding. :)

Hi Cena1975

Are you looking for the training URL I found elsewhere on WA?

Hi, Radeth, that is such a cool post thank you for sharing your discovery, really good stuff

Thanks for the kind words. In reality though I didn't do a thorough enough look at the available information on WA! It was here all along...

I was excited and just wanted to share. This may not be the last time I share mini victories :)
