Introduction

A very warm Saturday Morning welcome to all you lovely people at the WA Family, do so hope that in my absence that you have managed to keep both safe and well.

Around the 7th December by internet connection went down, to cut a very story short, despite the best efforts of engineers and all concerned it still failed. It was obvious to me that it was a BT line fault, they did not agree, told me a password was wrong, this I had been using for well over ten years. Had a chat with EE who do my broadband, changed everything to them, also £18 a month cheaper.

The new fibre router arrived, still no joy. On reading the installation instructions more closely, became aware that the extension cable from the phone line was not a good idea. So with my wife's help, we have reorganised the front lounge and installed the computer in there. This means that I can now reach all the points easily.

Eventually we had a connection, but not online, solved that totally accidentally on Thursday evening. To make matters worse the landline went down, we were not aware, until my daughter came round to make sure that we were both OK, apparently the phone gave them a ringing tone but not us. This has now been solved, and guess what, it was a line fault!!

The Past Few Weeks

Will now do my best to give you a resume of what I have been doing whilst in offline limbo. Began to write a few notes, which I have copied below.

WA UPDATE

Introduction

At last Hello and welcome back, as I write this have been without an internet connection for at least three weeks, today a new router arrived, but it still could be some weeks before it gets sorted out.

As always do so hope that you are all keeping both safe and well.

As you can imagine I have managed to keep myself fairly busy, so thought that I would start this post bringing you up to date, at the same time allowing me to remember just what I have been doing.

Intend to add to this every few days until I am back on line.

Realise that it is behind the times, but do so hope that your Christmas was as enjoyable as it could be given the circumstances, also may I wish you a belated very Happy and Peaceful New Year.

Fun Without the Internet

Days after I lost my connection I was due to launch my first article on the Family History Website, instead of the happening on the 16th December, it will now happen when I get back online.

The site has not been neglected have some forty titles for content, with twelve in the getting ready stage. In fact as I type these notes the first four are good to go. Before I lost the internet was able to update the “About Me” page. Feel that I might need to revisit this before I add my first article, but can always do this fairly quickly.

Then I can post the first article almost straight away.

Having just re-read this, one of the articles, I might just turn into a reference booklet and offer it as a gift, for those who visit the site, already have one gift on there.

Have given myself a couple of days away from the site, as with the research that I have been doing, was starting to get a little confused, or word blind.

The first couple of articles I was able to download, with slight amendments from a book that I wrote many years ago, this was a great help in getting me started.

Yesterday

You may recall that sometime ago I decided to start a bookshop, found the file with some items on it, so gave myself a break and had a look at it.

Not really laid out as I now like things, so spent the day getting items in files so that when I need to, I know where to look for them. Feel that this has not been completed yet, so may spend tomorrow continuing to get it into shape.

Must explain that It is not my intention to abandon the website, or start the book shop, merely to allow me to go to the right place when I need to, as I still continue to map out books in rough draft as I find them. Might only spend say an hour doing so, but I find it therapeutic.

Some of these might only have the cover designed, others are almost ready for the “Can I have your email” stage. These of course will be for one of my other sites, but being offline just cannot remember all my sites at the moment. (Think that I have said before –was trying to do too much). I just enjoy messing around some of the time.

Two Days Later

When I first joined WA one of my first web sites was on Yoga and Pilates, which has long been neglected, while sorting out my book shop files, found a file marked “Yoga and Pilates Blogs”, having opened it have found a number of blogs which appear ready to go for that website, That is assuming that they have not been posted already. This cannot be checked until I can get back on line.

Having spoken to EE today, who will now provide everything, including the phone line, they tell me to ensure that the new router is connected by January 6th. This I did this morning. The reason for my switch, despite having a BT engineer for several hours, the answer that they gave him was rubbish, in fact so untrue as to be laughable, so they have been binned. How I can be at fault with my user name, when it has not been altered in over ten years!

Going back to the Yoga and Pilates’ site, will make a decision whether I use this site as well as my new one, but until I can get online, will not worry about it too much.

While I was in the main Yoga file, did add a few new book titles, just got to sort out the content when I feel like it!!

If able will get back to the new sites content tomorrow, I say if able, need to go to Iceland to stock up the freezer, as I cannot order online at the moment. Hope to take the car for a run as well, this is my stress reliever, to avoid me going stir crazy!

It is fortunate that I have been involved in Family History for such a long time, this has enabled me to have a fairly extensive library on the subject. In fact, as I type these notes I am surrounded by books of all shapes and sizes. It does stop the need for constant referral to websites on line. The problem is it does mess with my head and eyes as I study what I need to know, another reason for a few days break.

Two More Days Later

The EE connection has not been made as I write this on the 6th January, will phone tomorrow, appreciate the pressure that they are under at the moment.

Now have some six articles ready to publish on the website, being me will have to give them yet another read first. Also five more almost ready, this will give me at least six weeks of articles when I finely get on line. Hopefully this will release some of the stress of getting articles ready to publish.

If the truth be told, have quite enjoyed being offline as I have managed to get a lot of work done, instead of answering mails and generally messing about.

Have also managed to sort a number of items for various funnels, just need to see what sites they can go on.

The Yoga site has had even more booklets got into a ready state, not sure why I went away from the site as I do enjoy both Yoga, Pilates and Meditation. Shows how unfit I am now, as I tried a Yoga exercise a couple of hours ago, this I used to manage easily, not anymore, I can now barely touch the floor when I bend forwards. Too good a living I think.

It has made me think so tomorrow I will spend just ten minutes doing some gentle Yoga. Also managed thirty minutes in the garden both yesterday and today, so much to do out there, but I think that I am starting to get more organised in general.

Did not mention that during this period I have managed to put one of my Railway Layouts up, so spend just a little time each day sorting out the track and scenery. Also find this to be quite relaxing.

APOLOGIES BACK TODAY.

The Bold and other factors have stuck, so will now keep this brief.

Have had a real test with being offline for so long. On my Google site, had a mere 20.5K of mails to delete, this has now been done, plus my normal account, which is slowly getting there. At last been able to go back to live chat, though have not been on today as yet.

Visited the Family History site, amended the About Me page, will now add my first article next Wednesday, as I wish to post every Wednesday. Just for a change will find time to look at the Yoga site, but not in a hurry. Being away for such a long time I am now learning to slow down somewhat.

This has not stopped me from having an idea regarding a side hustle, but again nice and slowly.

CONCLUSION

Despite missing you all, do feel that I am starting to get somewhere once more with my business thoughts, so the break may have done some good. Just got to keep calm and steady now, and not over do it.

Be Happy, Healthy and Wealthy.

Please do stay safe.

God Bless

Stuart

Welcome back, Stuart. I know how you feel. We have had Telstra in our region for 6 days and at times wireless is working well and at other times it's sluggish, slow and frustrating.

I tried this morning to attend to emails, it worked fined for about an hour then it went slow as soon as they started work and it's now fine again. Probably gone ta pub for a long extended lunch. (Joke)

It was certainly very frustrating.

You're not wrong

Great to have you back Mate!
Joe

Cheers old buddy.
Stuart

And to you Mate. Lift a pint for me!
Joe

You should have used your mobile data and tethered it to for PC or laptop. That way you wouldn't have been off air.

Do not allow my mobile on air, have to double delete too many mails, but a good thought.

I don't know what you mean. You only use the ata, nothing gets created twice. It is the exact same thing as wi fi. I use it all the time.

Welcome back Stuart!

Many thanks, it is good to be back.

Good to see you again Stuart.
Only recently I had mentioned in one of the comment threads that it can be quite liberating to be away from the computer, though a few days might be preferable to a month. Still, you seemed to have kept very productive.

Good to see you again.
