Introduction

Good Evening to all you lovely people at the Great WA Family, as always do so hope that you are all keeping both safe and well.

As you will read it has been a funny old week in a number of ways, most of it caused by me being continually tired, at the moment I am not letting it bother me, if I feel like a nap then I have one, it is possibly caused by all the stress and trauma of the last few months, with my body telling me that now I have a chance to slow down, rest and relax, then that is what I must do.

The Last Few Days

Not quite sure where to start, so I will just dive in with what I have been doing in no particular order.

I think that last week I mentioned that I hoped to fill my two compost bins by Thursday evening, ready for collection on the Friday morning, this I did manage to achieve. I have been so busy getting more rubbish (OK there is an awful lot) that I have already filled one bin ready for the week after next. If I carry on at this rate, I will run out of space in the bins. Thinking about this, if that does happen then I will use refuse sacks and store them in the shed until I can fill the compost bins once more, rather then stop collecting garden waste.

A couple of years ago (could be more) my son-in-law helped me to cut the tops of some of the shrubs in the garden, these we just piled up ready to move when time permitted. Not sure if I mentioned it, but my very old Blacker and Decker hand saw has finally given up the ghost, I have bought a battery operated hand one now. With Yvonne needing a lot of my attntion I have not used it until this week.

It is totally magical, already I have a pile of logs cut up, as luck would have it, the lady next door but one has a friend with a wood stove, so I will bag these up and let her have them. This saves me having to dispose of them. I have also begun to thin out a laurel at the side of the house.

When I was deciding what to do next in the garden I found a number of pieces of metal framework, these belonged to at least one, if not two old greenhouses. They were stacked out of the way, but I have started to move them to the front of the house, down the side behind the laurel and other bushes. The idea is that when the scrap man calls he can then help himself.

The area that they were in has some slabs on it, so I am thinking of making this a sitting area, it is well down the garden, so would be private, could even start painting again, when time permits, but sorting the gardn is a priority. This area has two old Clematis in pots on it, they appear to be still growing, if so, I will clean them up an train them against the wall. If truth be told this area will also take some sorting out,, it is next to my Raspberry bed, this also needs sorting.

Rather than start at one end and just deal with it, I have had more enjoyment just doing odd bits as I see fit. This also give me some satisfaction as I walk around the garden seeing some areas that are now done. There is one drawback, I want to extend these areas NOW. Must learn to be patient!! Whatever else I have planned for a day at the moment I am making myself spend at least an hour in the garden, prefer two, but this depend on the weather.

Must get back to the title of this blog, Over seventy years ago I was knocked down by a Land Rover, no serious damage, just heavy bruising. On the weekend my Granddad gave me a present to keep me busy, it was a Stamp Album, with a packet of stamps, mainly French I recall, with lots of badges.

To avoid boring you too much a life long hobby was born. Over the years I have started collections often selling them. On one occasion the collection that I sold was enough for the deposite of a house, it did include eleven Penny Blacks.

My current collection I started some fifrty years ago, very often in fits and starts, it now comprises of some fifty albums and stockbooks, and will be left to my eldest Grandson. I have decided to have a play with it again, thanks to the arrival of an auction catalogue.

I bought a mxture of used stamps last week, thougth that it might give me something to do when I was bored, truth to tell I am struggling at the moment, missing Yvonne terribly, but working on the business at the moment just awakens the memory.

However I will get there, it will just take time.

The Next Few Days

Do have two Branch meetings this coming work, also my garden, so I will not be bored, just not bothering to plan at the moment. Also, have the car to get ready for its annual MOT.

Forgive more this week.

Be happy, healthy and wealthy.

Please do stay safe.

God Bless

Stuart

Hi VH

I've been negligent in my response. The last couple days have been "trying" but this too shall pass right?

You sound good although I know you're still grieving and that's understandable for sure. I'm glad you're getting out in the garden and making plans.

My MIL collected stamps. I'm not sure what will happen to them now. I can't imagine that any of her family in NY wants them and I know I don't. I already have too many collections and it's just not the other side of the families "thing". They're more into collecting animals like cattle, pigs, etc. lol

Anyway, keep taking one day at a time and rest when you need to.

Always
Your VW

Hi VW,

It is alright being negligent, as long as you remember that I am here should you need to talk, or even rant!

I do have some good days now, just waiting for the ashes, so that I can scatter them on the grave of our dog.

Would you believe that the spray of flowers which I put on there are still going strong, they do brighten my day.

Getting to grips with other matters, have to send the donations to the two charities today, that will be another job done.

Have a Branch meeting tonight which gets me out of the house. I am still very tired, but it will take time to get my system back on track.

Last night I put an episode of the Crown on my DVD Player at 2105, saw the title and woke at 2345, me tired!!

Have a wonderful week dear lady.

As always,
Your VH

Hi Stuart,

In my youth, I had a Coin, stamp, and various other collections.

The 1960's were a good time to find silver coins still in circulation so that was always exciting. When I left home to move to another state, I sold my collections to pay my way. Hobbies are always nice.

Hi Mel,

In addition to my stamps, also have a coin collection, have sold one, but this includes Roman and other very early coins, also a decent medal collection, these are both going to my youngest grandson. Should give hime a decent start!!

Roman coins, cool! I used a metal detector for one year and found lots of coins, but American coins only go back so far. I'd love to do that in UK or Europe. I hope they enjoy it and take interest, too.

The Stamp Collection will be cherished, my eldest Grandson has said so, he will not sell it Granddad was his reply when I told him.

The weather is supposed to be nice all next week, so you should be able to make good progress in your garden. Yesterday I was properly in the garden for the first time this year enjoying the sunshine and warmth.

We moved to a bungalow last August and there was lots of cutting back of shrubs and we stored the extra debris in an empty shed and gradually disposed of it every two weeks until it was gone.

It sounds like you have plenty of different things to be getting on with this week and yes, get as much rest as you need.

Good luck with the MOT.

Seems that we have the same problem, but my shed is not empty!! Rest is my priority this week when I can that is!!

Just about to book the MOT, if it is too bad then I will just have to dive into my savings account and buy another one!!

Take care

Hi Stuart
My grandfather was a big stamp collector, he tried to get me interested but I never had the organization or neatness necessary. It's interesting how the philately market changes. For many years the accepted wisdom was that it was a dwindling market. That has certainly been the case for decades now in Europe and the Americas. The interesting thing is that the market in China and other parts of the far east has picked up. There are also some interesting innovations including linking physical stamps with crypto tokens or more usually NFTs that have given a big boost to sales in the primary market.
btw - I'm glad I don't have to take an MOT - not sure I would pass.
All the best and you are very wise to take advantage of your body telling you it is ready to sleep.
Cheers
Andy

That sounds like a wonderful week, Stuart. I have no doubt you're missing Yvonne. The stamp collection sounds like a great thing to get back into again.
Take care,
Melissa
