Avoiding Poverty

I travelled to Peru last week.

I do this often for work, and honestly, it's not as glamorous as one would think. When I tell my friends and family that I am headed to Peru, Chile, South Africa, or wherever I need to be next, most people get excited and want to hear more about my trip. The problem is, I don't get to see the sites, and, I don't get to enjoy the locations I'm visiting. Most of my trips are spent seeing the roads from the airport to the hotel room, and the roads leading to a fancy (or not so fancy), office building. I usually get a pretty decent dinner out of my travels, however, most of those dinners consist of stuffy sales pitches. So, enjoying the meal and savoring the flavors abroad are normally far from the list of things that are to be accomplished at the dinner table.

My thoughts today, however, are very sad as I was able to absorb the scenes of poverty as I made my travels around the countryside. As the client I was with stated, there are only two extremes there, the ‘haves” and the “have-nots”. No middle class; it’s almost as if it doesn’t exist. I have seen it before, the mountain side littered with shacks & shelters. Locals who “invade” the lands with hopes to eventually lay claim, as the government ultimately gives in and offers them deeds to the land.

This trip, however, was different for me. I know I don’t want to visit areas such as these anymore. I don’t want to pretend not to see what is happening in our world anymore. It is upsetting to see such devastation, and the fact that I have to take time from my family to spend in these areas, not being able to do anything about it, disturbs me even more.

I don’t believe that Internet Marketing will help me change the world and the poverty that exists, however, I do know that by next year, when the time rolls around for my yearly trips, I will have learned enough here at WA, that I no longer have to put myself in that position. No longer have to travel for work, and make those visits. It’s not to say that I will close my eyes to what exists… perhaps I can take the knowledge I learn here at WA and find a niche that is dedicated to helping those in need. Who knows what the future holds.

For now, I feel strong enough that I will make this work for me so I can become financially independent. I know it has been done, it can be done, and I will be one of those who will get it done.

The poverty is so sad. Sure should give all of us the incentive to become financially independent. Where else, but in this great country and within WA! Keep up the good work!

Thanks, certainly my goal and looking forward to becoming independently wealthy!

With that great determined attitude you will succeed. Just keep your eyes on the prize and don't quit. Great blog.

Thanks! It does take determination to succeed, and I will be sure to stay focused!

Hi, Thanks for the feedback. Yes I am a bit in a the same situation. I used to travel a lot for business. You see when friends are keen on what you see, they do imagine the geographical scenery or hotels you might be in etc..
Indeed the truth is far from that. But it is all over 3rd world countries. For example watch Brazil, same thing with the favellas next to the rich. Unbelievable.! And guess what? there are plenty of other countries having those problems on our planet. I remember a specific one, in the 70's, I went to India and was shocked. People went to the restaurant for meal and outside you have genuine beggars, who would wish to have a little something to eat. How does it feel? Nowadays it might be a bit better but I doubt it. I could give you endless examples.
But it is good of your to write about it. We all might take advantage of it in one way or another. Congratulations! Take care.Good luck!

It is unbelievable. And unfortunately, unless you have been able to witness it yourself, as we have, it is truly is hard to describe. I haven't seen much change over the past 15 years, slight changes, but not much. One day, perhaps I can make a small difference somewhere. Thanks for your comments!
