FB ads or Google ads?
Well, that question is similar to Nikon or Canon in the Photography world.
The short answer is both work.
Now the long answer.
Test both for the same product for equal budget and equal duration. If both are running fine well and good. Continue both.
If only one is doing ok then kill the other and scale the one performing well.
If both of them are not doing ok then take a look at your landing page and offer. Correct them and try again. Repeat & rinse till you succeed.
Certain things are little difficult with FB. For e.g. promotion of weightloss, MMO and MLM is very difficult on FB. In that case google is your best bet.
Also do explore native ads & pinterest ads. There is a goldmine there. Who knows, you may uncover it

Pinterest Ads is my choice. I hope it is like you say it is a gold mine. Google I try once get clicks but no conversions. I ask them to get no answer.
Good luck with pinterest. Getting MMO and weight loss ads approved on Pinterest is a challenge. For rest of them it is a gold mine.
