How Much Money Can You Really Make with Amazon Affiliates?

The big question: “Can I make a living with Amazon Associates?” The honest answer — yes, but it depends on your traffic, niche, and content strategy.

How Amazon Pays

Amazon pays a percentage of each sale:

  • 1% for video games
  • 3% for toys
  • 4% for electronics
  • Up to 10% for luxury beauty products

Example Earnings

If you sell a $100 kitchen appliance at 4% commission, you earn $4. Sell 50 of those in a month? That’s $200.

Factors That Affect Income

  • Traffic Volume — More visitors = more clicks.
  • Conversion Rate — How many clicks turn into purchases.
  • Product Price — Higher-priced items = bigger commissions.

Realistic Expectations

  • Beginner: $20–$200/month after a few months.
  • Intermediate: $500–$2,000/month.
  • Experienced: $5,000+/month with high traffic and good products.

Pro Tip: Many affiliates use Amazon to get started, then add higher-paying programs later.

5

That's great, Michael. It's absolutely achievable!
I wish you all the best.

Paul.

3

I’m sticking with my original goal of $10,000 per month.

I must be a sub-beginner in the realistic expectations section cause I haven’t made any organic sales in 1.5 years now. 🤣🙁😞

4

Steve, I hear you loud! Keep working. Keep creating more content. Reviews, product comparison, etc, keep on pouring it sorounding your niche. There will come a time where all the search will direct to your page. The day is coming. The harvest time is coming, Steve.

Paul.

3

Thanks Paul. I am doing more transactional content now because of AI handling the informational stuff.

I’m slowly building my brand up through the Blog, IG, TikTok, YouTube, and Pinterest.

3

Sounds super, Steve! Laying proper foundation is better. The future looks brighter on your side.

Paul.

1

Hello Steve,

I hope that you are doing well.

Do you mean that you haven't made any organic sales with Amazon or with any affiliate program in the last 1.5 years, Steve? I must admit, I've never particularly liked the Amazon affiliate program, I tend to use other programs.

Have a great Sunday.

Roy

2

Roy, I would agree with you. Sometime when put more effort and perfected it and expected positive turnout and when it doesn't, we feel different.

Paul.

3

Hello Roy,

I made the ‘3 sales in 6 months requirement’ to get into the Amazon Associates program. Let’s just say, I did what I had to do. Lol
I think Amazon is one of the easiest programs to use, though their commission rates are low.

But yeah, I’m still waiting for someone to read a blog post, click a link, and purchase. Just can’t seem to get traffic. Even had an article hit page 1 in Google, but it didn’t bring me any traffic. I kind of feel cursed. 🧐

I’m in other affiliate programs too but at this point, if I can’t get traffic, I’m dead in the water with sales.

3

Hey Steve!

Haha, "did what I had to do" – I get it! Gotta hustle to get into these programs sometimes.

It's definitely frustrating when you're putting in the work and not seeing the traffic translate into sales. That feeling of being cursed? Totally relatable. It's tough when you hit page 1 and still nothing.

Don't give up, though! Since you're struggling with traffic, have you considered focusing on a specific niche or audience and really tailoring your content to them? Sometimes, even if you rank, the keywords might not be bringing in buyers. Also, promoting your content on social media or related online communities can help get more eyes on it.

Hang in there, keep experimenting, and don't lose hope!

Paul.

2

Thanks Paul. I promote my guitar site on all of my social media accounts. Just starting out with YouTube so I’m hoping I can attract an audience there.

2

I have great confident in you, Steve. You've pick your niche based on your specialized skills and what you deliver will be original and unique and your audience will be liking it.

You will see growth sooner, Steve.

Paul.

2

Hello Steve,

That's kind of good that you made the sales for Amazon, at least you have made some sales! But I hear you, the Amazon commissions are a lot less than they used to be, unfortunately.

That's good that you are also in other affiliate programs, Steve, it's good to test other programs out.

I don't want to sound critical, Steve, I just looked at your guitar website, it looks great and is neatly laid out, well done for doing that. I clicked on your YouTube channel, as guitars fascinate me, it's great that you have uploaded your first video! That's a great starting point, I believe that you may find more power in YouTube, hopefully, it also brings out your individuality. I actually find it easier to make YouTube videos than writing a blog, even though I do both.

This is the bit where I don't want to sound critical, but I think your blog posts probably have too many AI-isms. If you can make YouTube videos and then embed them into your blog post, I really think this will help, partly because they will be you and show your uniqueness. I think muso's have extra uniqueness!

Well done for doing what you have done so far, let's hope that things explode soon.

All the best.

Roy

3

I understand where you're coming from, Paul, sometimes we think we have written a good blog post and nothing happens, and then another one will explode and do really well.

Roy

2

Thanks for this, Roy.

This is very helpful to Steve.

Paul.

1

That's right, Roy.
It feels weird at times.

Paul.

1

Thanks Roy. I do use AI-assisted writing for the blogs and for some of the images but I always do my best to inject myself into them. That’s what is taught here.

Do you really feel that too many AI-isms is stopping people from purchasing from the affiliate links?

Hopefully, when I start making more videos, I can start adding those to the posts.

One of my fellow blogger friends outside of WA, is doing really well with earning money but he refuses to use AI. He does all review posts. Sometimes, I wonder if I should be using it at all. This is why I think doing YT might help make better connections with my audience.

Thank you for looking at my site, I appreciate your honesty.

3

Steve, I could say that Roy is very kind and helpful here.
It sounds like you're thoughtfully balancing AI assistance with your personal touch and considering video content to build stronger audience connections.
I think that's a great move you are making.

Paul.

2

Good morning Steve,

It's a pleasure, Steve!

I understand where you're coming from, Steve, but everyone that tells me they are using AI to assist them, I see AI isms! In my recent video blog post, you will see in the comments, that people are telling me that they make it their own, yet I can easily tell that it's AI. When I detect AI in an article, and I'm not just talking about Wealthy Affiliate members, I mean everywhere, I just move away. That includes national newspapers as well!!

Here is the link to my recent blog post. I genuinely think that you are passionate about your niche, Steve, so I believe that providing you create your YouTube videos yourself, it will be unique and very much your good self. I believe that this is a much better way of expressing yourself, without using AI.

Please don't get me wrong, I am using AI, but more for heavy lifting and ideas, rather than writing, etc, it's a great tool!

As you probably know, when AI was first released to the public, I was against it, as I could see what could potentially happen, and it has happened! I literally saw hundreds of Wealthy Affiliate review posts that almost said the same thing! Everyone "stumbled upon" Wealthy Affiliate, then the reviews talked about the founders of Wealthy Affiliate, etc, and so it went on! Hundreds of reviews that were almost identical and were not the writer's experience at all, just something that AI had scraped together! I'm afraid those posts will never rank properly in the search engines!

There were members on the platform 18 months ago, claiming that they wrote X amount of blog posts in X amount of time. In most cases they didn't, AI just wrote several regurgitated blog posts of utter rubbish! It worked so well, that no one talks about it any more on the platform! I also believe that part of Google's update was a result of the Internet being flooded with rubbish content!

It was Kyle, who kindly helped me to see the good things of AI and that's really why I'm using ChatGPT now. I guess AI is like many things, it can be used for evil or good, thankfully, I think most of us want to use it for good!

Personally, I think your friend is right, Steve, I know lots of people won't agree with me, but he is making his own unique content. I did try using AI to help me write my posts in the beginning, but because I know my niches fairly well and I believe you do too, Steve, I found it easier just to write it from the heart and my own knowledge. It almost seems like you have to be quite clever to remove all those AI isms and time and you have done all that, you could have written it from scratch!

So, to conclude, I think making unique YouTube videos will help you a lot, you can also embed your YouTube video into your blog post. I have heard many people say that there are loads of guitar videos out there, but it's the individual that makes a difference, we can all put our own slant and uniqueness on each video.

I'm just trying to help and encourage you, as I think you have lots to offer.

All the best.

Roy

3

Thank you, Paul, yes, I'm genuinely trying to help.

There is a balance to be made.

Have a great day.

Roy

2

You're a good person, Roy.

God bless your kindness.

Paul.

2

This is very much encouraging to have discussions about this topic. Thanks Roy

Another thought on the ‘AI-isms’ is that we, as content creators, are training ourselves to improve our writing every day. Like in any profession, we’re trained to see all of the behind the curtain details that others might not be privy to.

I think the average person looking for information on the internet is not so ‘AI’ savvy, they just want answers to their questions.

Most important thing is the connection point from human to human.

I do have one post that is 100% human written after following an outline: https://stringshock.com/beginner-guitar-checklist-for-learning-rock-music/

I’m now testing out writing a no AI article on my other site to see how long it takes. lol

As for my friend, it makes sense with not using AI for review posts. I mean, the whole point of reading a review is to get another person’s perspective on it.

Steve

2

Good morning Steve,

It's a very interesting topic and I think many people who are using AI, are not kind of being totally honest about it. I don't know if this is deliberate, but using AI to write content is almost the easy way out, but at the same time, it often shows AI isms, big time!

I think that's a big thing with AI, Steve, it really misses out that the connection point, which is all part of reading.

I don't know if Google penalises AI content, Steve, but I wouldn't be surprised, especially if they see people starting to read the content and then moving away after a few seconds. That would be an instant sign that people do not like the content. I don't know what your stats are for people staying on your page, etc.

The good thing about writing is that we do get much quicker at it, as time progresses, it becomes more natural. I think this is where your YouTube videos could be very helpful, Steve, you obviously have a good knowledge of music and a passion for the subject.

Exactly, if I'm reading a review, I want someone's a genuine and real experience, not AI's fake experience!

Have a fantastic day.

Roy
