I've been hearing that email marketing is dead, dying or outdated for about 5 years now. However, the truth is that email marketing is alive, well and growing in influence.

Yes, email marketing is changing. Yes, there are more channels than ever today. But I don't see those channels as competitors, but as collaborators, with email. In a sense, they actually serve email. The goal. IMO, is to take the traffic that you don't own, whether Google, Facebook or YouTube delivers it to you, and convert it into traffic that you DO own...your own email list.

Nobody can predict the future. But in the near term, I see email marketing playing a bigger and bigger role commercially. Sure, we'll need better tools and smarter strategies...to compete with others, WHO ALSO ARE ALSO USING EMAIL MARKETING.

Again, the power is within the entrepreneur, not the tool.

I get it. But I also get it, all the spam that is. The stuff that come to my Mac mail. My primary, best email for banking and stuff. The emails that are graphics, not links. All manner of stuff. They don't unsubscribe when asked. Much flat out phishing. It's obvious. They blast me everyday. I have tried spam block but I miss the stuff I want. It's so hard to manage. So I simply delete dozens a day.

That is the email guy I don't want to be. Which one is it in the information you provide? I just want to avoid becoming that. For now I'm content to build a list and see where it takes me.
