I'm trying to migrate a website from WA to GoDaddy. The migration wizard on GoDaddy is failing to pull the website files because the ftp account is connecting to a folder one l

I would put in a support ticket to WA hosting on that one. ~Jude

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support

Sadly, WA Hosting weren't willing to assist.

Sorry about that. It probably means that it is not the ftp user details that needs to change but the actual location of the folder to a different level. I can understand why they won't do that.

Have you done a full backup of your website? With a plugin such as BackWPup, you should be able to save it to Dropbox, and then provide GoDaddy with the link to the Dropbox copy for restoring the site, or even restore the site yourself from within cPanel.

Another plugin, WP Clone, is the easiest plugin to backup and restore a site, but there is an issue for a small percentage of people, so you would have to check the plugin site to see if they have fixed that or not, and whether it is worth giving it a try.

~Jude

Thanks Jude - I'd already gone down that route, but I appreciate the reply. It required a bit of hacking of the MySQL database script plus a few other bits and pieces, but eventually I managed it.

Glad you worked it out!

Having created a GA account, got my tracking code, and added this to All-in-one-SEO, GA is still (2 days later) reporting a warning that the tracking code is missing:

I just checked your site and the you have no tracking code installed.
Please add the tag back to your All in One SEO plugin and save.

You can then click on "Check again" in the notification alert.
I would also try editing the page URL in Analytics, you have it including the WWW but all sites on WA hosting use the NON-WWW.

Not sure if that would cause a problem or not, but doesn;t hurt changing.

After you add your code and if you haven't blocked your own IP, go to real time stats and browser your site in another tab, if its working you'll see real time traffic.

Thanks Welshy - I've not installed the tracking code, but have instead put the tracking HTML (from GA) into the header.php file (as per Kyle's video). As I explained in my original question I started out using just the tracking code in All in One SEO, but that didn't work either.

I'll try taking the "www" out of the GA definition, but their own example includes both the HTTP:// and the www. prefix, so I'm not convinced that's the reason.

I'll update this with some more feedback very soon.

(Incidentally, how do you manage to see tracking code details in my website, and the settings in my GA account?)

It's still not installed,

I visit your site and view page source.
Either right click and select "view page source" or CTRL+U

This displays all the code for the page, I then press CTRL+F to open the "search" and start to type Analytics, if you have the script install it will find that word.

Right - I've removed the tracking HTML from the header.php file, and have added the tracking code into all-in-one SEO again. That's now the only place where GA is defined in my site.

For good measure I've also removed the WWW prefix from my property name in GA, and have asked for a re-check.

I haven't blocked my own IP address in GA, but I can already see that there is no real-time traffic being recorded. Is there a time delay between setting up the tracking details and GA recognising them, or should it be pretty-much instantaneous?

I see it now, check "Real Time / Overview" tracking, you should see that I'm browsing your site.

'Fraid not (although you've probably stopped again since you sent that!) I can't see myself browsing, either, even from another device. Oh, and GA is still reporting the broken link too :-(

I had to run out, still no luck?

If you want, you can temporarily add me as a user, I'll see if I can see anything wrong. http://take.ms/5je6P

Done - thanks Welshy

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but this is my first day on WA and I'm still going through the training. Things are becoming clearer with respects to some things, such

Thank you for this post
ken

Just a quick overview Philip. There are two types of training here at wealthy affiliate both are seen on the left. The get started button here is in green and the affiliate Boot Camp in black.
The affiliate Boot Camp is geared more towards learning how to sell membership sites. So this would not be particularly useful for you in terms of your photography site however aspects of it would be useful such as the traffic generating techniques. You can either do one of two things you can build a new website or you can enhance the one you have or do both. Should you decide to go down the route of your own website then the training you need would be found in the get started here green button

Thanks Kat - I suspected I was probably crossing my goals slightly between the affiliate route and simply generating better traffic. Like you have guessed, the main aim for my existing website is to increase traffic; I hadn't really considered affiliate sales before finding this site, but that also seems like a very interesting avenue to explore, so I intend to attempt both options!

Hi Philip, I am also fairly new at WA but started from scratch. I can think of no reason why the principles of regularly updated quality content, properly researched and selected keywords, etc cannot be applied to your photography website or any other website for that matter. Maybe some of the longstanding members here can enlighten us if we're missing something. All the best with your endeavours!

Thanks for the reply, Izak - that's sort of the way I was thinking, but like Kat has suggested I could well be confusing my goals slightly with regard to pure traffic on my existing site, and getting involved in affiliate selling. Hopefully I'll be able to improve both!

You can use that one and create new ones here at WA.
If you are already getting traffic for that site.
Back it up and bring it on over.

Thanks for the reply, Ken. I can see how creating new sites on WA would be beneficial, but what's the advantage of bringing my existing site onto here rather than leaving it where it is?

No advantage except having it hosted here
instead of paying for hosting elsewehere.
