Facebook will hammer you to boost the page and individual posts. I'd hang off until your fan page is substantial and then maybe consider it.

As for posts, I just take my post from my blog, use its main image as the Facebook image and insert the first paragraph or so with a link back to the blog. Seems to work fine.

The advantage is getting backlinks, one of Google's two main ranking factors.

Here's what we would do:

You add me as a user to your blog. Enter the user id as Phil, full name Phil Lancaster, email address phil@agingslowdown.com. Select my status as Author. This is important, as it means the only thing I can do on your blog is a guest post. Leave the send email box checked. I will get an email informing me that it's been done.

Let me know similar details for you and I'll set you up as an author on agingslowdown.com.

Then when one of us posts to the other's blog, we include an author bio that links back to our own site, either to the home page or to a specific page or post.

This is a great win-win scenario. If I post to your blog, you get free content and I get a backlink. Content and backlinks are Google's top two ranking factors.
