Affiliate Marketing for Seniors: 4 Common Fears

One thing I've noticed about Wealthy Affiliate membership recently is the larger number of seniors venturing into this space, most for the first time.

It may be indicative of apprehensions about the labor market and their future (or lack of) in it or just how many people are seeing retirement looming up with inadequate savings or pension plans.

Affiliate marketing can be an ideal online business for seniors, but there are some common fears to be overcome. Here are 4 of them

Am I Too Old to Learn This?

Age doesn't define capability. The digital universe isn't like a sprint race; no age barriers or physical demands stand in the way. The real hurdles are the ones we create in our thoughts.

Many older individuals mistakenly believe that the online frontier is an exclusive realm for the youth, feeling they've surpassed the tech age. Such beliefs only limit potential.

By simply setting aside an hour each day to discover the web, engage with different social media sites, and immerse in online realms, you can gain a substantial understanding of the digital environment within weeks.

Isn't Tech Beyond My Grasp?

While this hesitation is widespread, it's by no means an unconquerable challenge. Proper mentorship and continuous effort can make anyone tech-savvy. The online world brims with how-to guides, platforms, and video demonstrations tailored for every beginner.

Countless seniors have autonomously conquered the realm of online business by leveraging resources like Google and YouTube. The essence is to search, assimilate, and apply. With commitment, you too can steer through the digital ocean with assurance.

Business Isn't My Forte, Right?

Natural business acumen isn't mandatory for flourishing online. Success hinges on analyzing and replicating the tactics of those who've already made it in the digital space. Examine their moves and emulate their passion.

While it's valuable to gain insights from their journeys, integrate your individual flair. The wisdom from your life's experiences gives you a unique edge. Celebrate your authenticity. Stick to foundational principles, but also venture to differentiate yourself.

What If I Fall Short?

Don't let fear tether you. Setbacks, in reality, are growth opportunities!

Failure doesn't oppose success; it's a stepping stone to it. Each triumphant online endeavor comes adorned with its trials. Instead of fearing them, gear up for them.
Reflect on baseball players - they often miss more than they score. And the film industry? Not every movie's a blockbuster.

Life's rife with unpredictability. Embrace these unforeseen challenges, learn, and use them as milestones. As you embark on this journey, slip-ups are par for the course. The trick lies in remaining upbeat. Keep pushing, learn, adapt, and inch closer to your dreams.

There ARE many of us "seasoned" adults here. There are so many benefits. WA keeps our mind sharp, having a great community keeps us positive and extra money in retirement helps.

I often see people younger than myself having issues of those that are much older. Staying active AND positive are keys to having a satisfying, healthy life.

Let's keep it up. Never surrender. 😎

All so true, Debbie. Thanks for your insight.

Well, I certainly can relate to this, Phil. As someone who matches your age, I've "been there, done that". I guess I should rephrase that cliche to "being here, doing that".

In the past few years, I have learned more on technical subjects than ever before. And each time I conquer a new skill, I further my progress here-- and I get excited. An example of this would be a recent showdown with the "Google PPC beast".

Thank you for your insights.
Donna

P.S. Could you tell me the keyboard shortcut to get that accent mark over the "e in cliche"? That's one of those technical issues. Oh, wait, I'll ask ChatGPT" How fun is that!

You get symbols by holding down the Alt key and then entering the corresponding number using the numeric keypad (make sure NumLk is on. e acute is Alt + 0233, but here are some others:

Registered Symbol ®: Alt+0174
Trademark Symbol: ™ Alt+0153
Copyright Symbol ©: Alt+0169
British Pound Sign £: Alt+0163
e acute é: Alt + 0233
Degree °: Alt + 0176
Check Mark: ✓ Alt + 10003 or ✔ 10004
Ellipsis … Alt + 0133
Ñ ñ Ctrl + Shift + ~ then N or n as in La Niña

Thank you, Phil.

1

Do you really match my age, Donna? I thought I must be close to the oldest member here at WA.

2

Well, I remember your birthday a few months ago. My birthday is 3/16 /43. So, I think I'm right behind Catherine and you. I did see some one in Jay's class tonite who claimed 82.

Rock on as Frank would say.

Mine is 10/04/44 (or as you would say 4/10/44) so you're quite right.

Hi there, Phil.

We do have a few challenges as a senior citizen. Not everyone likes to embrace the aging process. I am one who plans to age gracefully. I will invest in serums, facials, massages, what every it takes. There is no reason not to.

However, for me, the benefits outweigh the age thingy. In my younger days, I was married to a senior and I loved the discounts at restaurants, at stores or on vacation trips. I still enjoy senior discounts.

My husband is not a senior yet but the truth is I miss the discounts. Now I'm the one who gets the most bang for our buck. I will return to work in 2024 and I will be around a lot of younger people. They are amazing to work with. I just have to stay in my lane.

Seniors are awesome though. I remember working with more experienced seniors when I was in my 20s and 30s. Older people will always be a significant part of the workforce. Seniors rock.

In fact, they are one of the fasting growing populations of the 21st century. They are fitness trainers, gymnasts, surgeons, judges, and more. Probably due to the advancements of science and technology and new medications. People are living longer.

My husband, Scott and some of my friends think I am crazy for venturing into affiliate marketing at my ripe old age of 39 (lol). Might as well do it while the noggin is still fleet; and brain-strong.

My Godmother, bless her heart made it to 106. Mentally I am as strong as an ox. It's wild. My orthopedic doctor called me his super-star a couple years back. I had a double-hip surgery within 5 hours. Crazy huh?

I don't really consider being a senior a bad thing. I see it as a time to learn and get more discounts. Although I am a late bloomer, I have always been a life-long learner, and I look forward to more blossoms.

Don't you think the 3rd quarter is the best time in life? You should. You look fantastic. I want what you're having. We haven't got time for the pain, right? Healthy lifestyle and exercise is key. Also, ditch the stress.

What's your secret sauce, Phil? By the way, I had 2 marriage proposals (old flames) last year. Too bad I am happily married. This anchored my marriage for sure.
Sometimes jealousy works in our favor. However, I would be the loser. Scott is an amazing, good-looking guy. I have to keep him on a short leash.

Don't forget that - with age, comes wisdom. Did you know that most of the Supreme Court Justices are in their 70s, as are many American politicians. Dan, my neighbor just got married in his 70s. Guess what it says on his license plate? "Aged to perfection." He is in tip-top shape. Very good-looking

Never live in an active senior community. The seniors can out walk. run, golf, and sometimes outlive their children. The key is to treat the grandkids as nice as possible so they can take care of us one day. (Just kidding).

Age is just a natural part of life. We will all get there one day. Embrace whatever stage in life your in and be around younger generations. It's a win-win part of life.

Wow, Rachele, I'm just knocked out by that response. Thanks so much for taking the time and making the effort to do it.

39? Gosh. If you were my daughter, you'd have 3 older brothers and a younger sister.

There's no "secret" to aging disgracefully. It's diet (meaning what you eat, not some stupid fad) exercise (and that includes sex, of course) and keeping mentally alert.

1

Hi there, Sweet p.
Ja rules, my lovely.

You are life in its best form. Young and beautiful inside and out. You are rachele-approved for life. My zodiac sign is Cancer, on the cusp of a Leo. So, we can rock with the young and old and everything in-between (lol).

By the way, purple hair becomes you, too mija.

Your BFF,

Just so you know, the exercise gets better every year🏌️^_~BOOM!

That is good to know.

Hi Phil-

Good observations however as a senior myself, (I'm 66) I think there are many more upsides than downsides:

1) My life experiences give me a wealth of topics to write about.
2) More comfortable in my skin.
3) Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
4) Connections with WA members fill a great social need!
5) It's fun!

Best,

ANNE

3

I couldn't agree more, Anne and have written many blog posts promoting this on both my anti-aging and super affiliate sites. WA is a great resource for seniors.

4

I want to check them out!
You are preaching to the choir!
:)

ANNE

2

I have 7 (the maximum allowed by WA) of my sites listed on my profile. If you follow me, you should be able to check them out. I've published a lot of blog posts about affiliate marketing for seniors in the past couple of weeks on the super affiliate challenge site but am yet to rewrite them for the anti-aging site.

3

Perfect. I'll check them out, Phil! Thank you!
ANNE

Let me know what you think, Anne.

Hi, Phil

Nice post! 👍

Haha, that would have be me. I’m 69 years old right now and semi-retired.

My whole idea centered around expanding my musical hobby, as if it wasn’t taking up enough of my time already.

So, now, when I’m not playing a guitar I’m writing about one.

And then there’s all the pesky “research,” which mainly includes trips to the Guitar Center to play with all the new toys for product reviews and watching awesome YouTube videos.

There’s even a little money coming in, which is always welcome.

So, it turned out ok for this “senior six-stringer.” Lol 😎

Love your title image!

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

6

Thanks, Frank. Sounds like you're both enjoying yourself and doing well. Ahh... to be a young man of 69 again!

4

Hahaha, Phil.

There’s always someone younger, unless it’s delivery day. 😎

Frank 🎸

No matter where you are on the age spectrum, there's always both something to teach and something to learn.

3

Yup 😎
