My First 6 Months at WA

Hi everyone, this is my first blog post at WA as part of the OEC training (end of Course 2). For my first website and niche I decided I wasn’t going to create a website that had the primary goal of making money. One of the most critical messages that I’ve learnt from my life over the past year is the importance of creating wealth on the inside first before wealth on the outside. And as they say, “To go there, you have to grow there”, and for me material wealth won’t mean as much if I don’t get fulfilment of life - it’s probably what real wealth is about once you’re able to meet your living expenses. So, I’m learning to be rich on the inside as part of a journey and training that started out as a search for material wealth. Someday I’ll write another post about this past year, I think it will help some of you guys out there. Anyway, I started with a website called acornsliteracy.com which has the goal of raising awareness of Learning Disabilities, and helping kids with learning disabilities to improve their literacy. It came about based on my own experience in helping my son through his learning difficulty and finding out how much ignorance and little support there is with this topic from the public (at least in New Zealand where I live).

Through this website and training, I’ve found out:-

  • I quite enjoy writing and communicating with people, and creating websites. It’s a channel that enables me to express my creative side. Only time will tell if I’m any good at it but it’s possible that I’ve discovered a hidden talent within myself.
  • The internet is an amazing tool that has the potential to help a huge number of people worldwide, and when it comes to imparting knowledge it doesn’t have to cost a huge amount of money to do this. Assuming that I get good at online marketing, I’m hoping to do more in help others through the internet.
  • Progress has been pretty slow and writing the articles quite time-consuming since I have to research the topic and then write about it in a meaningful way. I’m wondering how to address this issue since I do find it a struggle to create content even once a month. Having to work and spend time with my family means that the online activities do tend to take second priority. It’s an issue that needs to be addressed if I’m going to generate a decent level of income from online marketing one day. Any thoughts on how you coped with this issue?
  • At times, I have found it a struggle, there is so much to learn and master, and there is not even a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel that at times, I do wonder if I’ll ever get to the part of seeing any significant financial returns. During these times, I am glad that I started with a topic of helping others rather than make money, it’s kept me going. I’m also hoping to make this a lifelong skill so I’m taking a longer perspective. I can definitely understand why so many people give up since most of them are attracted to this because they want to make money and fairly quickly. Learning the skills is definitely proving to be a harder and higher climb than what I originally anticipated. I’m grateful to WA to have this structured platform to learn on, it’s probably made what would have been an impossible climb more achievable.

So many ideas have come to mind, I can’t wait until I’ve finished learning the material and start on them. I guess my goals for the next 3 and 6 months is mainly to:-

  1. Keep learning the material. I hope to finish Course 3 and 4 in the next 3 – 6 months, and then complete the entire OEC course by end of the year.
  1. In the next 3 – 6 months I aim to finish writing all the articles I have in my head around learning disabilities, and then start on the literacy content. Once I have some content around literacy, I’ll probably start to get the website marketed to the public, and schools, etc and hope that it can be a resource for teachers to use. This project is definitely going to take a while before I feel it’s completed, and maybe I won’t be able to complete it since the success of it depends on many factors which I don’t have direct control over, for examples whether I can get the appropriate experts in their fields – optometrists, audiologists, psychologists, reading tutors, etc to be willing to contribute to this website so it has credibility and good content. But as a wise saint once said, don’t hesitate to do something good, so I’ll just act and see what happens.

So happy to have you guys traveling on this long road with me. Hope you’ve enjoyed this post and do reach out if you want to talk.

Cheers

Peter
