Pictures On Social Media

So i'm having a lot of problems when sharing articles from my site to social media.

Pictures don't show up when I copy the url in to FB or twitter.

If we do it ourselves we can add the picture separately but there is also a group who auto retweet anything we post from the site and then nothing comes up and obviously not having a picture doesn't help to grab people's attention.

Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? Is there a setting that needs to be activated or something?
