Dilemma Time in Month Two

Hi WA friends,

I am facing a bit of a dilemma. I am currently in my second month here with WA and working my way through the training. All is going well and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

But, I'm now having an issue regarding the niche that I chose. I went for a niche that I am not passionate about but I know it is something that is needed in the world today and I figured this would be a great path. However, it doesn't interest me and as such I am struggling to know what to write about. I have acheived the following with this niche:

  • Website created (tick)
  • About me page created (tick)
  • First post published (tick)
  • Indexed in Google (tick)
  • Offered website for feedback (tick)
  • Received feedback (tick)

Now I'm kind of stuck.

I am considering starting from scratch with a totally new niche, something I am passionate about, something I know a lot about, something I have first hand experience with and something I beleive having read a lot of the posts, questions and blogs here at WA will be right up there with the most hot topics in society right now.

So my question to myself now is really do I park my current niche and re-invent myself?

I'm sure some of you may have been in this position before and can offer some element of advice/recommendation.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Kind regards,

Paul

I'd definitely recommend putting your current site on hold and starting with something fresh. Choose something that you are truly passionate about and can easily write content for. Money can be made in ANY niche, it doesn't just have to be something that you perceive there is a need for. With the right keywords and content, the traffic will come, and with that the commissions. You never know, with time and experience, you will then have a better outlook on your original site and may find it easier to build at a later point. Good luck!

Thank you Jennifer for your advice. It is very much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Paul

Hi Paul just coming from a different angle, one of the keys is identifying with the message that you are trying to project, if your heart isn't in it, then you are only a couple of blocks away from procrastination , which is only a block away from the taxi stand that will take you back to your life, as you know it before coming to the online world.
When we are learning the best thing we can do is to do something that we enjoy. Down the road we can always pick up projects that we have left behind. That is one of good things about online marketing, we get to choose the flow.

Hi Alex,

Yes, procrastination is certainly not something I want to be dealing with. Thank you for your advice. My plan is clear. I will start a new site and put all my efforts into that.

Best regards,

Paul

Hi Paul, I certainly recommend starting a new website on the niche you are passionate about. Doing this will allow you to give honest and quality advice to your readers. Most of all, it will create great user experience and build trust with visitors to your site. People are 'switched on' these days and most can recognize what's genuine content and advice, as opposed to that which is created through research and/or guesswork.

Park your current website. You may or may not return to it. I have websites parked and may never return to them. That's what I call 'life on web'.

All the best :)
Valerie

Hi Valerie,

Thank you for your feedback. Very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Hi Paul!
I agree with the consensus here so far. Start a new site in a niche you will be inspired to write about. Once that’s up and running you can always come back to build the original one, maybe after doing more reading and research about that topic. Or you may decide to abandon it and not renew that domain if you find it no longer interests you.
All the best with your decision!

Thank you Kyle Ann.

It does seem to be the most common sense approach and it seems, as you say, the general consensus is to go that way.

Kind regards,
Paul

If I were you Paul I would start a new niche and keep the one you have already started. It is always a lot easier to write on something you are passionate about.

There is no reason why you cannot add to your existing site as well.

Derek

Thanks Derek for taking the time to respond. Yes, I think this is the direction I will take.

Cheers,
Paul

Hi Paul,

For sure being passionate about your niche will help but don't give up on the one you put all the work on.

Go ahead and start a new one in your passion and work it hard. But find a bit of time to add a post when you can to the other.

It's a bit more work but eventually any work you do to a needed topic you will get the traction. So if you can figure out a post for it every so often at some point it will take off.

One thing I know is multiple streams of income from different niches is how you are going to scale your business.

So I know that you will at times have to work on sites that you aren't really passionate about.

Hope this helps,

- Glen B

Hi Glen,

Thanks for the feedback. Indeed I will keep the existing niche open in the hope that I will get a Eureka moment sometime in the future. I'm still learning and actually writing on a regular basis is new to me so I was getting stressed that I would have weak content with the current niche.

Cheers,
Paul

Paul,

You do want good content but don't stress over it in the beginning. It will improve the more you write. You will find a grove that works for you and writing will become much easier.

I get a lot of my inspiration from questions asked right here on the WA Site.

You may want to get hooked up in some forums for your Niche's and read what people ask. It's great inspiration for finding answers and then writing about them.

Good Luck I know you will do well!!

- Glen B

Many thanks again Glen for the advice. Much appreciated.

My Pleasure!!

- Glen B

That is good to hear that you are passionate about your niche and it is not uncommon to switch niches.

Thank you Jill. Much appreciated.

If you are struggling to write content now, how do you think you might feel in a couple of months time without anything written and you feel like you have wasted your time on it.
Personally, i would learn from what you have done so far and start with a niche and new site that you are passionate about.
You will find it much easier to write content in a subject you know something about (as you can help the reader) and as you are passionate about it - it will come across in your writing and help build trust with the reader.

You will also feel more fulfilled in a subject you like?

Hope that helps

John

Thanks John for your advice. It helps a lot.
Yes, I agree and that's what was worrying me already at this early stage, I couldn't feel any ideas flowing within my chosen niche.

Thanks again and have a great weekend.
Cheers,
Paul

I have had it with a blog I started, didnt write any content on it for a couple of months and thought I am not going to write anything on it so took the hit on the domain name and moved on.

We just need to think of it as a business decision - some will work out and some others will not.

Cheers

John
