Will we better off when the trumpet sounds?
From the beginning of time we have been changed.!
The bible is an opus magnus of change, beginning with the Old Testament and the "Garden of Eden" all the way through the New Testament to the final book of Revelations and the Acopolypse. Whether one chooses to take these texts literally is entirely up to the individual. From my personal point of view, Darwin long dispelled the theory of Adam and Eve with his "origin of the species"
Be this as it may, human kind has, from the beginning of time had to conform and adapt to changes.
The fall of the Roman, Mongolian, Greek, Egyptian and many other "empires" brought change and the populace was either better or worse off than what came before.
We were certainly better off after the Catholic inquisition in Spain, the fall of the Berlin wall, the defeat of Hitler and countless other examples of positive change.
Yet are we ever able to judge whether we are better or worse off?
Whilst advances in technology have certainly been beneficial to mankind, they have also dehumanized us with irreversible consequences
The wife of a soldier in the trenches of the second world war receives a hand written letter from her husband, possibly months after the writing. She saves this letter in a shoe box and treasures it all her life. Now an email is read and deleted! Poignancy is lost.
One observes a group of kids having a few shakes in a cafe. No conversation, only "texting"
In my day there would have been an entirely different interaction, with the firm objective of getting to kiss one of the girls!
These kids have lost their language owing to the constant gibberish of text language. "I 8 my food, are U coming over tonight"
Hence they are becoming intellectually more stupid. Poetry, literature is lost.
One cannot even walk in the street without being bumped into by someone texting and not looking where they are going!
Due to todays lack of human interaction, sex is practiced at a younger age, with no real substance or even romance. The Worst divorce rate in history, domestic abuse off the scale!
In my work as a chef, I am outraged by clients picking at their food with their mobiles wedged in their necks.
The communist countries and their former domains, have to a certain extent halted this effect as kids are more disciplened. Better athletes, classical musicians and so forth
So we are all probably asking ourselves what will life be like after the trumpet sounds?.
Who knows.
