My Social Media Experience, part 2
Hey friends
Click for part 1
Social Media is too important. We have to understand it and master it.
And so, I started an ongoing series as I am learning new things all the time. As the title says, this is about MY experience. And so, this blog series is not a tutorial nor a definitive document. But it is simply a personal journal of opinions and suggestions.
.
PART 2: MORE EXPERIENCES AND OPINIONS
* Keeping a strict separation between my personal page and my fan pages
* Building more of a personal relationship with my followers through simple images. I have found that people respond better to images with a simple message and not long messages. And so, I have started 2 things.
1. Photos from my personal walk with my dog
* this walk is now serving 3 purposes. exercise, prayer, and taking photos of the walking experience.
* then I take these photos and write something on them like a word of encouragement or a thought of the day. And it brings so many more responses than simply posting a link to a blog a wrote. Obviously people are interested in real photos. And these are real pics of my real walk and my own thoughts and so I think it's working.
* And what I mean by "working" is that I want to create a relationship of trust with my followers by presenting myself positively and as someone who cares about them.
* The following are 2 photos I took with my phone and posted recently about my actual walk around my house and with each one I wrote something personal and reflective (which is not included here)
* It's good to get followers to LIKE it and write comments. This is the FB experience that I am entering.
TECH Matter:
I no longer use the social media icon on my sites to share any photos onto Facebook, because it's simply unpredictable. FB randomly chooses whatever image it wants to post and you have no control. And so, I go directly to my FB page and write something and then click the "camera" icon and upload the photo from my computer or dropbox. Sometimes, I do this directly from my smartphone which has the dropbox app and the Facebook app. And by doing it this way, you keep full control of what you are posting.
2. Images with inspirational thoughts
* I will create images and type in inspirational thoughts. When I am not posting the prayer-walk photos, I am doings this.
* so, I will take a generic image like this one and type into the allotted space a word of inspiration and encouragement.
So, it's a simple post which makes it easy for people to LIKE and respond. Your followers don't have to click and go somewhere else but simply respond to what they see.
And it helps them. And it builds a bridge with you. And makes it easier for you post products and blogs later.
I have 8 boards with many pins on them.
* I have to be sensitive to the female population which makes up over 80% of Pinterest. Maybe that's why the site is so darn beautiful.
* You really have to give thought to the images you create since the image is the primary way of drawing the interest to your pin boards.
* After pinning today, I got a message from Pinterest that it ALSO pinned by pin to another person's board. I did not recognize that board. But it was a person who chose to follow me. And that's a good thing. That's the point.
TECH Matter:
You must create an image for your posts and pages for Pinterest to choose to pin. Once the image is created and posted, you can click the social media icon on your site and it will give you a display of images (which you created) to pin.
* There is also a check box at the bottom for Facebook and Twitter posts. And so, you can check and take care of 2 other social medias with this.

No new experience beyond part 1
* I hate reddit
.
I think that G+ might have made a change to the way you post onto it, because I can no longer post an image directly from my site using the media icons.
For the last 4 months, I was able to conveniently click my site icons and G+ would automatically find my featured image from my post and include it. No any more. What is your experience?
So, now I have to go into my actual G+ account and post it from there and then upload a photo from my computer. And so, the experience here is now exactly like Facebook where I have to do this as well.
* My opinion is that a image is absolutely necessary for a G+ share. Otherwise, your post in lost in a sea of images from other people's posts.
.
No new experience beyond part 1
.
Just like Facebook and Google Plus, LinkedIn is no longer automatically linking a photo. Is this your experience?
* I need to poke around more and figure out how to post images.
* this really stinks, the changes to Facebook, G+, and LinkedIn on the auto-posting of images has created extra work. Not happy about this.
.
* Future Project: Instagram
I believe instagram is really important.
And I'm thinking that if I am going to post photos on Facebook, I should be able to post the same photos here as well. Do you use Instagram?
I think you can really pull in the younger demographic with this one.
.
YEAH, ALL THIS IS A LITTLE CRAZY, BUT THAT'S THE CRAZY WORLD WE LIVE IN. AND SINCE WE CHOSE TO BE PART OF THE CYBER WORLD, WE HAVE TO BE PART OF THIS.
What is your experience?

not sure about the stats: women at WA @over 80% of the population?
Hello. Thank you for stopping by and offering kind words. And to clarify, the 80% women-stat refers to PINTEREST and NOT WA. Haha...I made it more clear in the post. Thanks
Great post! What a wonderful landscape to walk in which provides for some awesome pictures!

Yes I am, thanks. What I can give you is a reflection of your self. You can of course see when people like your post but you don't always now exactly WHAT it was that caught the persons attention. For me it all about HOW you say it - in combination with WHAT you saying. Happy to get a glimps of your life. Best Regards, Jim

Hate to bother you but I'm adding all of these and with all of my devices (3) I have the ability to check out my links but it's taking me to my admin site for each... Is this a clear cookies isssue or am I entering in the wrong link from the social pages? Btw this is an amazing view of the world as we know it, thank you so much for your article! I don't know how to tell you how much more professional it made my site by doing this!!!! Thank you again Janith
Hello Janith. I'm glad it helped you and made your site better. To be honest. I have not experienced your particular issue here. If the cookies have been cleared and it's not working and you've gone through all the settings, then I think it's best to write a question about it and invite the WA community to respond. This will be the best way to get an answer. Also, you should identify the exact plugin that you are using since they all have different settings and requirements. Blessings.
Thank You, I'll check it again...Janith
