The Importance of Understanding Energy
Energy: ALWAYS was, ALWAYS is and ALWAYS will be!
Though it may not always be obvious, energy transfers and transforms constantly, and it happens all around us and is what enables life as we know it to exist.1
Integral physiology connects actual science and chakras.
While we are still learning about “universal energy,” it has definitely passed the test of time with centuries of practice in Chi and Yoga traditions, amongst others. Its name in Western science is a bit less vague – subtle energy.
According to a well-respected doctor who specializes in biological and medical chemistry, YOU and your consciousness existed before you were even born.
In the research paper in National Institute of Health called “The Scientific Basis of Integrative Medicine,” the authors explain:
“Subtle energy both informs and transcends the faculties of the five senses. It is taken into the body via openings, called chakras.” It’s then “translated into a form of energy that the body can […] use, at the cellular level.” Subtle energy is the basis of integral physiology.
Integral physiology is “a medical paradigm that unites the enormous contributions of Western medicine with the profound insights of Eastern systems of health. It makes a truly integral philosophy of healing… Supported by scientific research, integral physiology bridges belief systems and offers a neutral language […] For example, people who speak different languages use this to communicate with one other about experiences that extend outside of known science.”
Quantum physics tells us that all cells and bodily systems are constantly in motion. And they are continually striving for balance and homeostasis. Energy medicine (EM) is a branch of integrative medicine that seeks to understand subtle energy through therapeutic techniques. 2
Understanding CHIEverything in creation is made up of energy vibrating at different frequencies. In living beings, energy flows not only from physical nourishment, but through the body in pathways known as meridians and in energy centers called chakras. Chi, (Qi or Ki) is the energy of life itself, a balance of Yin and Yang, positive and negative, electromagnetic energy which flows through everything in creation. So Chi can possibly be described as an electromagnetic phenomenon, as a form of light energy, as a form of bio-electromagnetic energy or electricity.3
Simply put, chi (qi) is an energetic force, a life force that powers all living things.
To have strong chi is to have a strong life force and vitality.
With strong chi, you are able to move easily and freely, and you have an energetic field (or bubble) that will keep negative forces and situations away. Negative energies that could comprise your health and wellbeing.4
Having GOOD chi is mandatory! You cannot begin to activate and manifest changes in your life until YOU improve the chi that flows through your body and the chi that is already in your home. Just like discussed in the Chakras section of my blog, once you begin to meditate on the colors and locations of each chakra, it is important to also combine this practice with the practice of Feng Shui.
Feng Shui
Feng Shui, at its simplest explanation, is the art of placement. Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art of arranging buildings, objects, and space in an environment to achieve harmony and balance in a way that will bring peace and prosperity.5
Feng shui is all about energy flow and how to create a home that feels good to you and your family. It goes beyond “design” and is all about how your home feels.
Your home responds to the energy that you bring into the space, but it also responds to the energy of the items you’re keeping in it.
If you never seem to use a room, or if you just feel bad when you are in certain areas of your home, then those are the rooms that might have bad feng shui.6
Is your living space cluttered? Most people will say “yes!”. I have to really keep working at this because when I am focused on writing, I tend to just let things go. It is a bad habit that I MUST constantly be aware of. Clutter is one of the worst things to have in your home. It disrupts the flow of chi and causes more blockages in all energy. This will affect your health, focus and concentration, depression and will block your manifestation techniques. You could be really good at meditation and manifestation techniques but if your home is cluttered, you are wasting your time.
The “Holistic and Esoteric Way” of attracting abundance uses daily meditation of chakras, improving the chi in our bodies and within our living space, as well as, working on our self-talk. These 3 areas are mandatory if you want to attract better health, wellness and abundance.
Let’s take a look at some of the things you can improve on right now.
Keep the entrance clearShoes, coats, bags, backpacks, kiddie sports gear—I could go on, but why bother? You know all the stuff that has a tendency to accumulate near the front door. But it’s essential to clear it if you want good mojo in your house. “The entryway is the mouth into the home,” explains feng shui consultant Susan M. Chu. “When it is blocked, it prevents or limits opportunities from entering.”
Kathryn Weber, publisher of the feng shui site Red Lotus Letter, suggests “keeping your foyer open by moving piles of shoes and clutter out of the way.” To increase the flow of energy, which can positively influence income and relationships, try storing entryway items in an accent cabinet. Not only will it keep everything in its place, but it’s also an attractive addition to your home.7
Get rid of clutter in your hallwaysDo you have an oversized console table in your hallway? How about a bench that collects a bunch of stuff that never seems to get put away? Toss it! (Or at least find a better spot for it.) Feng shui guru Karen Rauch Carter, author of https://amzn.to/3LCv3jB Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life, wants you to think of hallways as the arteries of the home. Visualize them aiding in the circulation of the energy throughout your home and “remove anything that impedes the natural flow.” 8
Get rid of your bedroom TVI know, I know—you love to Netflix and chill.
But in the actual bedroom, Carter says, “the television is out!” Why? It distracts from the two main purposes of the space: health regeneration (sleep) and relationship building (passion). And while Chu agrees, she does admit that sometimes the television habit is just too hard to break, so she suggests putting the TV inside a cabinet so that it’s hidden away when not in use. After you’ve disguised or moved your flat screen, turn a ruthless eye to other potential distractions in this room, as well.
Clutter piled around and under the bed will block you from getting a good night’s sleep and depending on where your bed is placed, it will also negatively impact that feng shui area.9
Replace withered or dying plantsHealthy plants exude vitality and enhance the good chi throughout your space. But withered or dying plants bring down your home’s energy. And let’s face it—they’re depressing to look at, too. Weber recommends “looking around at any plants that aren’t thriving. If your ivy has seen better days, replace it with a new, lush plant.”10
Throw out items with negative associationsIn feng shui, the goal is to promote your well-being by surrounding yourself with positive energy. Carter says that holding onto items that drudge up negative reminders every time you see them doesn’t contribute to the overall positive vibe of your home. So, if you’re storing crutches from a skiing accident in the back of your closet, you should throw them out right away.11 This includes any beautiful or cool pictures you might have of your ex.
Good vibesStaying healthy is at the forefront of everyone’s minds these days. Sure, you know that handwashing, disinfecting, and social distancing will help you achieve that goal. But have you been paying enough attention to your emotional health?
Stress can harm your mental well-being and potentially weaken your immune system. While that stress probably won’t subside completely as the pandemic continues to rage on, there is something simple you can do that might take the edge off: Maximize the good energy in your home with feng shui.
According to this ancient Chinese philosophy, every object, space, and living thing has life energy called chi, and you can harness this power to give yourself a boost. Feng shui consultant Susan M. Chu describes it this way: “It’s an energetic approach to designing your spaces to maximize, optimize, and support your professional and personal growth.” The better the quality of chi you can get flowing, the healthier and more vibrant it is, which can have a positive effect on your emotional health—and, in turn, your physical health.
Placing multisensory items in the areas of your home where you spend the most time can harmonize the healthy energies of mind, body, and spirit. No need to worry about super specific positioning for some of these; there are benefits to simply having them around.
Black tourmaline
Quality sleep is an important part of staying healthy. But restorative slumber can be negatively impacted by electromagnetic fields (EMFs), and in fact, concerns persist about possible connections between EMF and adverse health effects. As the number of devices we use regularly continues to grow, it’s not uncommon to be surrounded by large amounts of EMFs—emanating from your television, cell phone, alarm clock, tablet, laptop, and Wi-Fi. Create a healthier sleeping spot by placing a piece or two of black tourmaline next to your bed.12
Toilets
Leaving the toilet seat up is not just unhygienic, it’s bad feng shui and can leave you feeling drained in every sense. According to feng shui practitioner Carol Daigneault’s Feng Shui Studio, toilets represent the biggest pipe in the home and can suck all that vital chi energy out if you don’t do the right thing before you flush and put a lid on it.13
Your wealth and finances are unstable!
Maybe you seem to be losing a lot of money, or money doesn’t come when you expect it, or you have other unlucky things happen with money.
When it happens a lot, and all at once, it can seem completely overwhelming and many of us don’t really think about how we can use our home to change it!
It goes back to creating more flow in your life and changing your home with the intention of that being reflected into your finances.
Money was one of the first things I focused on when I learned feng shui – it changed my circumstances so much (along with other money mindset work) that I became hooked on using my home to change things!14
In feng shui, there are things that carry lucky energy and things that carry unlucky energy.
If you’re feeling like you’re unlucky with money, there are unlucky things you’ll want to move out of your home’s wealth corner in order to create a more welcoming money environment.
This will help remove the negative energy and replace it with more positive money energy!15
Your home is divided into 9 areas that correspond with different areas of your life.
The feng shui prosperity area is the far back left corner of your home, when you’re standing at your front door, looking inside.
If you have a lot of clutter in your home’s wealth area, it can definitely affect the energy in that space.
Keep your money area clean and fresh!
Keep the floors clean, the baseboards clean, and the windows clean.
Set your intentions every time you clean your money area that you are bringing new, vibrant energy to your finances!
Sweeping, dusting, and cleaning all represent clearing out the old to make room for the new.
We all know that we should keep our homes clean, but from an energetic standpoint — neglected areas represent neglected areas of your life.
So when you want to bring new, lucky money in – clean your home with intention and watch what happens!
It’s also good to keep in mind that sometimes unlucky money energy is just old patterns and old circumstances that you’re now having to deal with — it’s not a result of what you’re CURRENTLY doing.
So, approach your relationship with money in a new way and let yourself off the hook for past mistakes.
What is the feng shui bagua map?The Bagua is a feng shui energy map that you can place over your space so that you can accurately apply feng shui cures.
Each part of the Bagua reflects an area of your life, such as health, creativity, family, and money.
When you use the Bagua map, you can easily understand which areas of your space need to change in order to make your life better. Stand at your front door with your back touching the door. This map shows each of the 9 areas that affect your energy (chi). You can also use this map in each room for greater chi, as well as your desk.
Practice Tai Chi
The art of Tai Chi is specifically designed to help you balance your chi.
Though there are many moves that make up Tai Chi, you can begin with a few of the basics to see how they work. Breath is central to Tai Chi, and hopefully you have already developed a good sense of how breath and chi work together.
The practice of Tai Chi itself is essentially a slow and gentle series of movements that are designed to ground you and get you in touch with your breath and chi (energy).
Below are some of my recommended items to kick start your energy and activate abundance in all areas of your life.
