Blogger Burnout - What are the signs?
From the very start here at Wealthy Affiliate we are encouraged to set goals, lay out a plan, do the training, apply the learning, take action, and with time success will come.
We are warned that the race is not for the swift. That we must pace ourselves because results could take months, if not in reality years plus to see tangible results that we aspire.
Do we listen? No. What are those much more experienced guys and girls talking about? I can manage. I can wake up every day and go non-stop from 4 am to 10 pm with a potty break or two and food. I am like the cartoon Wile Coyote always feeling like he can match the speed of the Roadrunner who has an insatiable energy
I think I am able to comment on every blog, ask questions, do research, diligently do the OEC and Bootcamp tasks, build my website, do research, write content, draw graphics, master apps, make videos get followers and do everything else. Right? Somehow I think I hear a couple of no’s.
Are you struggling to keep up? Are you stressed out? Feeling exhausted and unable to cope with the pace that you have set for yourself?
If you continue this way you are going to be burnt out. None of us want that? You certainly will not be useful to yourself or anyone else. So before you start experiencing physical or mental issues,
I thought it would be useful to identify 12 signs that you could indicate that you are headed for burnout.
- You feel like you are chained to your blog putting yourself under enormous deadline pressures.
- You have completely hit a wall with new blog topic ideas.
- You are discouraged and want to quit blogging.
- You have no energy for your website because your blog is sucking up most of your oomph
- You can’t keep up with your blog and related tasks
- You start looking for hail Mary's and shortcuts that you believe will speed up your success
- You’ve lost interest in your blog or blogging in general.
- You are beginning to feel like a failure particularly when you note the progress of others.
- You feel like you cannot say anything that others would find useful.
- You have lost nearly all your steam and can’t get enough motivation to write anywhere near the frequency you once did.
- Your family life and time with friends are limited to the point where quality time is rare.
- You are not taking care of yourself as you should causing a fall-off in your health
If you are seeing any of these signs take heed and slow down. Reassess your strategy and your goals making sure that they don't come at too high a price.
Rome actually was not built in a day so don't act as though your digital kingdom will. Pace yourself, ask for help, accept assistance and listen to the wiser heads around you.
Let us make sure that we do not get burnt out and succeed in a healthy way together.
Have you felt any of these burnout signs? Are you coping? I welcome your likes and comments so that we can all learn from your experience.
Wishing you well.
Hugh

I’ve not reached burn out yet, but I am taking it slow. I don’t feel a drive to be successful now and I know I have so much to learn that others come in knowing. So learning is a high priority right now, especially the language of the internet. The rest will come.
I know what burn out feels like though and what you said is everything I have felt in the past.

Nice one Only1Hugh,, your post identify exactly what happened to me ,, I started at F1 pace and is now down to MARATHON pace, because I quickly realized that 1. You cant breeze through nor skip the training, nor can do everything at F1 pace , once you attempt this , there is a high possibility that you will struggle,, my personal advice is it's better to go slow and get something done properly than go fast and dont do it properly ,,, so thanks for the reminder Only1Hugh,,, SHINEPAGE1
Thank you for your post. I have just today began the adventure that lies before me. I have already begun to establish for myself criteria to follow to hopefully avoid such pitfalls and help me too refocus my energies and utilize the tools available here at WA. By establishing reasonable time frames in which to achieve realistic growth and success that I may evaluate my current approach and determine how I should move forward.
I know that I tend to buckle down at times and get so engaged in my current endeavor that I don't step back and remain focused on the primary goal that this endeavor is meant to help me achieve. So periodically I will step back and evaluate my progress that I may stay focused on the primary objective. If I find that my energies are not producing results within a reasonable timeframe then I must look to either other options that will provide the means or communicate with those who have become successful utilizing the current model I have chosen and learn what I can do to achieve my desired outcome.
And lastly, schedule breaks at certain points just like you would a vacation from your 9 to 5. Go refill your batteries and do what you're working so hard to achieve! Enjoy your life with your loved ones and engage in what is most important in life. The greatest things in life are the people we share it with, not our accomplishments or our net worth. Sometimes we forget this because we are so focused on the task at hand that we forget what we are working for which is to provide a better life for our loved ones and be a positive force in their lives.
Be Blessed!

Thank you for these. I'm not there yet but it can happen one day as I am working fulltime as well.
I try to have an attitude "this is my hobby and I am here to learn" It always help me with the process and there is not that much pressure to success but still enough motivaation to continue.
I know that if I can keep this attitude and continue writing the money will come one day.
Totally agree. Hmm my secret, I realized that it worked with other things and now I'm trying to think that way with my blog as well. I understamd there will be more difficult moments but currently I have good motivation :)

Hi Hugh!
I have certainly experienced a couple of the signs mentioned in your list at certain times, but nothing that results in burn out as of yet.
I find it best to take a step back, relax, do some exercise or something just to refresh and refocus the mind, then have another stab at whatever was troubling me.
Wishing you well too my friend!
