Wordpress trackback & pings what exactly is this?
In the discussion tab in WP pages and post you have the choices to allow discussion or not. But, you also have a checkbox which is a yea or nay as to whether you allow trackbac
Trackbacks are used to inform you that a person on their or someone else's website linked back to your blog post or website. It usually has an excerpt of your post.
Pingbacks are used to inform other website owners that you've added a link to their blog post within your own blog post aka external linking.
Trackbacks can be spammy and they show up as a comment in your WP Dashboard. I've received a bunch of them and most don't even have anything to do with the subject of my website.
You can disable them in your WP Dashboard here:
Settings ==> Discussion under " Default article settings"
