Useful things to know about WA

When I was creating the Resource Roundup – Useful Things to Know About WA, I realized there were certain things that I didn't find out about somewhere that I could easily link to. For example it may have been someone responding to my comment which was way below the main article or maybe in the Live Chat. So this post is a list of all my notes of from those little lessons.

My first note is to any free member reading this. I joined as a Premium member so some of these may be different for you, but I don't know what they are. If you want me to add something comment below.

If you don't like the video quality of the training, there is a box to switch from standard definition to high definition.

If you go to Account Settings at the bottom you can adjust what notifications you receive by email. On any post you comment on, in the top left side under the title you can click on the blue box with the gear to stop receiving notifications from that post.

You can only post one blog post a day for the first three months you are a Premium member.

You can't post any training at all for the first three months after you are a Premium member.

Much of the site is updated around 11PM EST. This is when your current rank will be updated. Your one post a day limit is also reset at this point instead of being reset 24 hrs after your last post.

If you actively participate you'll be surprised by how fast your rank can jump. I was...

There is a lot more training than the stuff you'll find in the certification courses or the classrooms. The search tool really is your friend. Everyone's cool with you asking questions, but I recommend starting with the search function before you ask. A lot of times the answer you get will literally just be a link to the article here on WA that answers your question.

So I noticed in the beginning that a lot of people I hadn't interacted with were following me. I'm sure there are a lot of possible reasons for this, and I'm not going to try and guess their motivations. However, here's one that's not necessarily advertised. On your profile if you are a premium member you are allowed to add websites to your profile on the bottom right corner. However, only people that follow you will see them. Therefore, because of the general practice of reciprocal following the more people you follow the more people that will see your links when they visit your profile. Does this make a difference? Can't hurt.

Posts can be restricted to only be viewed by Premium members by clicking the gear box in the top right corner when posting a new blog post.

As I come up with more of these, I'll come back and add to it. Or if you have something to add, share it in the comments. Thanks.

Well done! Very informative and I am sure very helpful for newbies!

Thanks. I appreciate it.

I never did understanding ranking in terms of the benefits. I mean, for me, I find it motivating to learn things so that I can consequently share what I've learned with WA community. However, regarding ranking, is there any TANGIBLE benefit to improving one's rank at WA?

Well... For all intents and purposes not that I know of. Some have suggested to me that it gives you more credibility when referring people to WA, but I'd be willing to debate that idea. I mean you could possibly find a way to use it for that, but I wouldn't swear by it.

Beyond that I would actually argue the opposite. Your ranking really just shows how much time you spend interacting on WA. And since you make money working on your site and not interacting on WA, if you're brand new and haven't built your business yet then having a really low ranking is probably a sign your putting your efforts in the wrong place.

That being said there are definitely members on here that are doing well already or are semi retired or whatever, that just enjoy participating in the community and that's a perfectly valid thing to do too. But if you're brand new and struggling then I would say, if you're pursuing a low ranking you should probably reevaluate your focus. And of course I mean 'you' in the generic global 'you', not you specifically Boo. :)

Of course that being said, someone with more experience on the site may come by and give you a better answer. In my case, I've just been playing around with the ranking to see what happens. It's more of curiosity thing than any kind of tangible return I expect to get out of it. And I am definitely spending way too much time on here, but I have the freedom to play around with my interests so it's not that big of a deal. :) Thanks for the great question.

Yes, one's ranking on WA seems to be like a feather in one's cap that may or may not matter to oneself but no tangible benefit. However, it could also symbolize that you're providing helpful feedback to others and your blogs and/or training you create is helpful to others. But I don't think you need to be "ranked" to know whether or not you're providing helpful feedback, blog and/or training. However, I personally have come to the conclusion that ranking can be used as a game. This "ranking game" can motivate one to learn more and faster about affiliate marketing business, etc. because then one can share what one learns with the WA community with WA blogs and/or training, and the corollary of more sharing in WA community is, of course, improved ranking. Of course, you don't have to play "ranking game" to be motivated to learn a lot, but playing ranking game can add extra motivation to learning faster just so you can share your new knowledge with WA community. And then you can also use this new knowledge for your actual business website/s. However, one's ranking on WA apparently has no significance in itself in terms of one's business success.

That's a good way to look at it and I'm sure that's at least part of the reason it's there.

Thanks for the Share

My pleasure.

Many thanks for the share :)

I should actually give the real credit to all the people that shared it with me, but I can't remember who all it was. Thanks though.

HI, great info. Irv.

Thanks.

In Maryland/Wash DC USA Posting window/closes/renews at 2000 and ranking updates are at 2300-2400 approx.

Hey thanks for that. I didn't know about the window closing on posts at 2000 (that's 8pm EST for you nonmilitary types. :)

But just for clarification Washington DC is not in Maryland.

I put a slash between both locations to indicate they are in the same time zome

Ok, I saw that just did want people to get confused. 11.000+sq miles all to it's own.

No problem. You have to get used to my brand of scripting LOL!

I didn't know all that.

Glad to be of service. I can be neurotic about figuring out how things work and OnMyOwnTerms among others have been great about answering my questions.

Isn't he a fairly newbie?

New to WA? I don't know like 6 mos. I think. Longer than I've been around though. :) And he's put in the effort to make it to Ambassador. And he's been doing things online for decades. So all and all he's been a pretty good resource.
